The Teams

The Los Angeles Lakers are playing the Boston Celtics tonight. The Lakers are in first place in the Western Conference while the Celtics are in second place in the Eastern Conference. These are two of the best teams in the NBA and it should be a great game.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. They play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association. The Lakers are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA, and have won 16 NBA championships, their last being in 2010.

Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are an American professional basketball team based in Denver, Colorado. The Nuggets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The team was founded as the Denver Larks in 1967 as a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association (ABA), but changed its name to Rockets before the first season. It changed its name again to the Nuggets in 1974. After nine seasons in the ABA, the Nuggets joined the NBA in 1976 as part of the ABA–NBA merger.

The team has had some periods of success, qualifying for the ABA Playoffs for all seasons from 1967 to 1976. In 1983, they became one of two NBA teams to lose all their games during a season. They qualified for the NBA Playoffs about half of their 32 seasons since joining that league, but lost most first-round playoff matches despite several season where they had winning records and home court advantage. Their best finish was in 1985–86 when they won 47 games and qualified for the Conference Finals that year before being swept by eventual champions Houston Rockets.

Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in San Francisco. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and took the city’s name, before changing its geographic moniker to Golden State in 1971. They play their home games at the Chase Center.

The Warriors won the inaugural Basketball Association of America (BAA) championship in 1947, and won its second championship in 1956, led by Hall of Fame trio Paul Arizin, Tom Gola, and Neil Johnston. However, the Warriors would not return to similar heights in Philadelphia, and after a brief rebuilding period following the trade of star Wilt Chamberlain, they relocated to San Francisco. With star players Crispus Attucks and Rick Barry leading the way, the Warriors returned to championship glory in 1975, winning their third title in franchise history. This would precede another period of struggle in early 1990s before becoming playoff regulars at the turn of the decade with stars Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin known as “Run TMC”. After failing to capture a title between 1975 and 1994 despite several seasons with 50 or more wins between 1987–1997, they returned to greatness under head coach Steve Kerr with All-Stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green leading them to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances from 2015–2017 winning two championships in 2015 and 2017 while setting record regular-season wins along each campaign.

Between 2017–2018 under new head coach Steve Kerr, they won 58 games missing out on matching their regular record set previous year but still managed to capture back-to-back number one seeds for first time since 1974–75 NBA season where they ultimately lost fourth consecutive Finals appearance this time against LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers despite Durant’s individual heroics throughout series averaging 34 points per game himself.

The Players

LeBron James

LeBron Raymone James Sr. (/ləˈbrɒn/; born December 30, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players in NBA history. Discussions ranking him as the greatest player of all time have often been subject to significant debate, with frequent comparisons to Michael Jordan. James played high school basketball at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, where he was highly promoted in the national media as a future NBA superstar. A prep-to-pro, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers directly out of high school in 2003 and became the franchise’s first draft pick that year; he would go on to play for them for eleven seasons.

Anthony Davis

As one of the best players in the NBA, Anthony Davis has been a force to be reckoned with since he was drafted first overall in 2012. A gifted scorer and rebounder, Davis has helped lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a playoff berth in each of the last three seasons.

Born and raised in Chicago, Davis excelled at basketball from an early age. He was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school, and he chose to play college basketball for the University of Kentucky. Davis had a successful one-year stint with the Wildcats, winning the National Championship and being named the consensus National Player of the Year. After just one year in college, he decided to declare for the NBA Draft.

The Pelicans selected Davis with the first overall pick, and he quickly became one of the best players on the team. In his first season, he averaged 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, and he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Davis has only gotten better since then, averaging over 24 points and 10 rebounds per game in each of the last three seasons. He was also named an All-Star for the first time in 2015.

Davis is still just 23 years old, and he is already one of the best players in the NBA. With his combination of size, skills, and athleticism, there is no telling how good he can become in the years to come.

Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic, the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, is a 6’10” center from Serbia who plays for the Denver Nuggets. Jokic made his NBA debut in 2015 and is currently in his fifth season with the team. He was named to the All-Rookie Second Team in 2016 and has been selected to two All-Star teams (2019, 2020). Nikola Jokic is one of the best young centers in the NBA and is a key player on the Denver Nuggets.

The Coaches

As the playoffs loom, the question on everyone’s mind is: which teams will be playing each other? The answer, of course, lies in the hands of the coaches. Let’s take a look at the match-ups that are most likely to occur.

Frank Vogel

Frank Vogel is an American professional basketball coach who is the head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has also been the head coach of the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic. Vogel was born and raised in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey. He played basketball at Juniata College in Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the school’s Division III national championship team in 1995. After graduation, Vogel began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Rhode Island. He then became an assistant coach with several NBA teams before being hired as the head coach of the Pacers in 2011.

Mike Malone

Mike Malone is an American basketball coach who is the head coach of the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was previously the head coach of the Sacramento Kings.

Malone began his coaching career in 2001 as an assistant coach under his father, Brendan Malone, with the New York Knicks. He then worked as an assistant under Maurice Cheeks with the Portland Trail Blazers from 2006 to 2010. Malone served as the head coach of the Rockets’ NBA Summer League team in both 2010 and 2011.

On June 10, 2013, Malone was hired by the Sacramento Kings to be their new head coach. On December 15, 2014, Malone was fired by the Kings after posting a record of 11–13.

On June 15, 2015, Malone was hired by the Denver Nuggets to be their new head coach.

Steve Kerr

Steve Kerr is the current head coach of the Golden State Warriors. He is an American former professional player and television analyst. Kerr played college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats, where he was a member of the 1988 NCAA championship team. In the NBA, Kerr won three championships with the Chicago Bulls and two with the San Antonio Spurs as a player, and five more as a head coach with the Warriors. He also holds NBA records for highest career three-point percentage and most three-pointers made in a season.

The Game

The game will feature the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets. These are two of the best teams in the NBA and it should be a great game. Lakers star LeBron James is averaging 27.8 points per game this season and is one of the best players in the league. The Nuggets are led by Nikola Jokic, who is averaging 20.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. This will be a great matchup between two of the top teams in the Western Conference.

When and where to watch

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a men’s professional basketball league in North America, composed of 30 teams (29 in the United States and 1 in Canada). It is widely considered to be the premier men’s professional basketball league in the world. The NBA is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB), which is recognized by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in the United States.

The league was founded on August 3, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted the name National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with its rival National Basketball League (NBL). The league’s several international as well as individual team offices are directed out of its head offices located in the Olympic Tower at 645 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

The NBA today consists of thirty teams: twenty-nine in the United States and one in Canada.

What to expect

Although 82 games are played in the regular season, only half of those count towards a team’s seed in the playoffs. The games that do count are called divisional games, and they’re the ones that teams really focus on winning.

If a team is playing against another team in their division, it’s a divisional game. If two teams are in different divisions but they’re in the same conference, it’s not a divisional game.

In order to make the playoffs, a team needs to have a winning record overall and also needs to finish in the top eight of their conference. The playoff seeding is determined by a team’s record and whether they win their division.

The first round of the playoffs is called the conference quarterfinals, and it’s a best-of-seven series. The team with the better record gets home-court advantage, meaning they get to play four of the seven games at home in front of their fans.

If both teams have identical records, then it goes to who had the better head-to-head record in the regular season. If they split their regular season series, then it goes to who had the better record against common opponents.

The NBA Conference Finals are also best-of-seven series, but that’s where home court advantage goes out the window. Instead, it goes to whichever team had the better regular season record overall.
