The Four NFL Teams in London
The NFL has been growing in popularity in London and there are now four teams that play in the city. The teams are the New England Patriots, the Miami Dolphins, the Detroit Lions, and the Dallas Cowboys.
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL–NFL merger. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002. The Pats’ franchise began with Billy Sullivan, who was granted an AFL franchise forBoston on December 6, 1959.
The San Francisco
The San Francisco 49ers play in Santa Clara, California, but they have a strong fan base in London. In fact, the 49ers played a regular season game in London in 2010, and they will play again in 2014. The 49ers are one of the most successful teams in NFL history, winning five Super Bowls.
The Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins, who have played one regular season game in London every year since 2015, are the only team to have won all their games in the English capital. They have a 3-0 record in London, with victories against the Oakland Raiders, the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills.
The Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of four NFL teams that play in London as part of the NFL International Series. The Jaguars have been playing in London since 2013 and have played a total of seven games there, including four at Wembley Stadium and three at Twickenham Stadium. The Jaguars are the only team to have played at all three of London’s NFL stadiums.
The Jaguars are one of the most popular teams in the NFL International Series, due to their large fanbase in the UK. The team has held several fan events across the country, including a pep rally at Trafalgar Square before their game against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. In 2019, the Jaguars will play two home games at Wembley Stadium, against the Houston Texans on October 27 and the Carolina Panthers on November 3.
The Three London Stadiums
There are three stadiums in London that are used by NFL teams when they play in London: Wembley Stadium, Twickenham Stadium, and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Wembley Stadium is the most iconic of the three and has the most history. It has been the home of the England national football team since 1923 and was originally built for the British Empire Exhibition of 1924.
Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium is a football stadium in Wembley, London, England, which opened in 2007. It was built on the site of the original Wembley Stadium, which was demolished from 2002–2003. The first match at the new stadium was on 9 March 2007 when England beat Italy 1–0 in a friendly international match.
The stadium hosts the annual England vs. Scotland rugby union match as well as the NFL International Series game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Baltimore Ravens. It also hosted the 2012 Summer Olympics Women’s Football final, and will host both the semi-finals and final of UEFA Euro 2020.
Twickenham Stadium
Twickenham Stadium is a rugby union stadium in Twickenham, south west London, England. It is the home of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), and as such, is the headquarters of the sport’s governing body in England. It is the second largest stadium in the United Kingdom, after Wembley Stadium.
The stadium has a capacity of 82,000 people, making it the largest rugby union stadium in the world and the eleventh largest stadium overall. Twickenham has hosted ten Five Nations Championship matches (with five being shared victories), four World Cup matches – including two quarter-finals – and numerous other international matches as well as rugby league’s Challenge Cup final and American football’s NFL International Series games.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a football stadium in Tottenham, London, England, which has a seating capacity of 62,062. It is the home ground of Tottenham Hotspur and was opened to replace White Hart Lane. The ground officially opened on 3 April 2019.

What to Expect When Attending an NFL Game in London
Attending an NFL game in London is a truly unique experience. You’ll be surrounded by passionate fans from all over the world, cheering on their favourite teams. The atmosphere is electric and the game itself is sure to be a great spectacle. However, there are a few things you should know before attending an NFL game in London.
The National Anthem
When “The Star-Spangled Banner” is played at an NFL game in London, you might notice something a little different. Instead of everyone facing the flag and taking off their hats, many fans will stay standing and keep their hats on. There’s no need to worry, though; this is perfectly normal protocol for British sports fans.
The Halftime Show
Every year, the NFL puts on a massive halftime show for the Super Bowl. This year’s show was headlined by Justin Timberlake and featured special guests like Chris Stapleton. The halftime show is one of the most highly anticipated parts of the Super Bowl, and it always features some of the biggest names in music.
But what about the halftime show at an NFL game in London? Who plays at halftime during an NFL game in London?
The answer is: no one knows for sure. The NFL does not release information about who will be playing at halftime until shortly before the game. So if you’re attending an NFL game in London, be prepared for a surprise!
The Fans
If you’re used to football fans in the United States, you’ll be in for a bit of a surprise when you attend an NFL game in London. While the fans are passionate about their team, they don’t always have the same level of knowledge about the game. This can be both good and bad. On the one hand, you won’t have to worry about being inundated with questions from people who don’t know the basics of football. On the other hand, it can be frustrating when people around you don’t seem to understand what’s going on on-screen.
How to Get to the Stadium
Wembley Stadium is located in Wembley, in the London Borough of Brent, England. It is on the site of the original Wembley Stadium, which was demolished in 2003. The new stadium has a capacity of 90,000, making it the largest football stadium in England. Getting to the stadium is easy whether you are coming by car, train, or tube.
Public Transportation
The London tube, or as locals call it “the Underground” is by far the easiest way to get around the city. With 11 lines, 270 stations, and 403 miles of track, there’s a good chance you can get pretty close to wherever you’re trying to go. If you’re looking to take the Tube to the game, the best station to use is Wembley Park on the Jubilee line. From there it’s about a 10-15 minute walk to reach the stadium.
Driving
If you are driving to the game, please be aware of the following:
-The average game day traffic volume on roads immediately surrounding the stadium is approximately 25% above normal weekday volumes.
-Approximately two hours prior to kickoff, all vehicular access routes to the stadium area will be closed to incoming traffic. All vehicles will be directed to pre-designated parking areas.
-Tailgating is permitted in all pre-designated parking areas. Please follow posted signage and police direction. Beer kegs and open fires are not permitted.
-For your safety and the safety of others, please do not drink and drive.
Parking
If you are driving to the game, you will need to purchase a parking pass in advance. Parking passes can be bought through the team website or through Ticketmaster. Parking at Wembley Stadium costs £30 for cars and £60 for coaches, and there is a £10 charge for vehicles that arrive on the day of the game. There are a limited number of disabled parking spaces available, and you will need to have a valid blue badge to park in these spaces.
