Who Plays in the NBA Playoffs Today? The NBA Playoffs are here and we have your guide to who is playing when and where.
Eastern Conference
In the Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat are playing the Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors are playing the Boston Celtics.
Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They play their home games at the Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. The team was founded in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. Since the 2001–02 season, the Raptors have been the only Canadian-based NBA team after the Grizzlies relocated from Vancouver to Memphis, Tennessee.
The Raptors are owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd., which also owns several other teams in basketball, soccer, baseball, and hockey within Ontario; these other teams include the NBA G League’s Raptors 905 and Toronto FC of Major League Soccer (MLS). For this reason, on some occasions when reference is made to simply “the Raptors”, it can also mean MLSE’s entire collection of teams from various leagues that are based out of Toronto – not just those from the NBA.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks are an American professional basketball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Bucks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team was founded in 1968 as an expansion team, and play at the Fiserv Forum. Former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl was the long-time owner of the team, but on April 16, 2014, a group led by billionaire hedge fund managers Wes Edens and Marc Lasry agreed to purchase a majority interest in the team from Kohl, a sale which was approved by the NBA Board of Governors on May 16. The new owners renamed the team the Milwaukee Bucks, replacing “Milwaukee” with “Bangor” in honor of their new home arena; this was quickly changed back to Milwaukee after protests from Wisconsin residents (including then-Governor Scott Walker) andbangor officials.
Philadelphia 76ers
As the No. 1 seed in the 2021 Eastern Conference playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers will face the winner of the play-in game between the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics. The Sixers finished the regular season with a 51-21 record, one game behind the Brooklyn Nets for first place in the conference.
In the first round of the playoffs, Philadelphia will have home-court advantage. The Sixers are led by All-Stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, as well as veteran sharpshooter JJ Redick. The team is coached by Doc Rivers, who led the Boston Celtics to an NBA championship in 2008.
The Sixers are looking to make it to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2001, when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.
Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are an American professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Celtics compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Founded in 1946 as one of the league’s original eight teams, the team play their home games at TD Garden, which they share with the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Boston Bruins. The Celtics are one of the most successful teams in NBA history; they have won the most championships of any franchise in North America with 17 NBA titles, accounting for 24.6 percent of all NBA championships since the league’s founding in 1947. They have also played more games and won more games than any other franchise.
Western Conference
The Warriors and the Rockets will battle it out for the Western Conference title today. The Warriors have been the dominant team in the conference for the past few years, but the Rockets are a force to be reckoned with. It should be a great game!
Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in San Francisco. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and took the city’s name, before changing its geographic moniker to Golden State in 1971. They play their home games at the Chase Center.
The Warriors won the 1947 BAA Finals, which marked the franchise’s first win and marked the end of Basic Athletic Association (BAA). The team would remain competitive throughout early 1950s, reaching playoff seven times between 1951 and 1960, but failed to make any significant playoff run during that period. Between 1959 and 1962, head coach Al Attles led the team to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances. Featuring hall of famers such as Wilt Chamberlain and Rick Barry, they won the franchise’s first championship on their home court with a sweeping victory against the Washington Bullets in 1975 NBA Finals. The team struggled over next four seasons before making playoff appearance under head coach George Karl
Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets finished the regular season as the number two seed in the Western Conference with a 54-28 record. They will face the seventh-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs. The Nuggets are led by center Nikola Jokic, who averaged 20.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game during the regular season.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers are a professional basketball team in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team is based in Portland, Oregon, and plays its home games at the Moda Center. The Blazers are currently the sixth seed in the Western Conference playoff standings.
