Introduction
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America, and the highest professional level of American football in the world.
NFL Teams
There are two NFL teams playing in tonight’s game. The first team is the New England Patriots and the second team is the Los Angeles Rams.

The American Football Conference (AFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL). The AFC was created after the NFL merged with the American Football League (AFL). This conference currently contains 16 teams organized into 4 divisions, each containing 4 teams.
The current divisional alignment began in 2002, when the league realigned itself into 8 divisions, 4 in each conference. As part of this realignment, the AFC added 2 additional Wild Card spots to bring its total to 6 playoff teams. The most recent realignment occurred in 2020 when the league expanded from 32 to 36 teams via the addition of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers. NFC
The NFC (National Football Conference) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the world. This conference and its counterpart, the AFC, comprise 16 teams each, making up a total of 32. Unlike the AFC, however, all but two NFC teams are based in cities located in the Contiguous United States; those two teams are instead located in Alaska and Hawaii (respectively). In terms of both overall standings and winning percentage, the NFC has been superior to the AFC since 1984.

Regular season
The regular season began on September 5, 2019 with the NFL Kickoff Game, in which the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 10–3. The regular season will conclude with Week 17 on December 29, 2019. Each team will play 16 games during a 17-week period.
Playoffs
The NFL playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the end of the regular season to determine the NFL champion. Six teams from each of the league’s two conferences qualify for the playoffs. A seeded team plays against a wild card team in each round. The two surviving teams from each conference’s divisional playoff games then meet in the respective AFC and NFC Conference Championship games, with the winners advancing to the Super Bowl.
