New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An ownership group led by Robert Kraft has owned the team since 1994. The team was founded in 1959 as the Boston Patriots, an original member of the American Football League; they became part of the NFL when the two leagues merged in 1970. The name was changed to New England Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots have appeared in ten Super Bowls since 2001, winning seven of them.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC.

In contrast with their status as perennial also-rans in the pre-merger NFL, where they were the oldest team never to win a league championship, the Steelers of the post-merger era are one of the most successful NFL franchises. Since the AFL–NFL merger in 1970, they have posted the most wins of any AFC team (400), captured 15 division championships (including 8 consecutive from 1974–81), made 16 appearances in conference championship games (more than any other AFC team during that time frame), and played in and won 8 Super Bowls, tied with NFC rival Dallas for second place behind only Green Bay’s record 11 titles during that span. The Steelers have won more Super Bowls and hosted more conference championship games than any other NFL team. They are tied with Dallas for second place with eight appearances overall in conference title games. They have played in 13 NFL Championship Games—winning nine times—more than any other NFL team; this includes eight times during their 70-season span between 1933 and 2003 when there was no playoffs, but excludes their two titles since then when playoff rounds were added prior to each respective conference championship game appearance—making them second only behind Green Bay for overall number of times having reached such a game with eleven total appearances. The Steelers share the record for second most Super Bowl appearances with 15 overall appearances, behind New England’s record of 18.
