Who Plays Thanksgiving Day Nfl?

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States.

The Packers are headquartered across the street from Lambeau Field in Green Bay’s historic downtown. The Packers have played their home games at Lambeau Field since 1957. They are also the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1922–1932.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The club was founded in Portsmouth, Ohio, in 1929 and was purchased by George A. Richards in 1932. The franchise relocated to Detroit for the 1934 season. The Lions compete in the NFL as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have played on Thanksgiving Day more times than any other NFL team. The tradition started in 1966, when the Cowboys faced off against the Cleveland Browns. Since then, the team has played a total of 32 Thanksgiving games, winning 20 of them. The Cowboys will once again be playing on Thanksgiving this year, taking on the Carolina Panthers at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are an American professional football team based in the Miami metropolitan area. The Dolphins compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The Dolphins play their home games at Hard Rock Stadium in the northern suburb of Miami Gardens, Florida, and are headquartered in Davie, Florida.

The Dolphins were founded by attorney-politician Joe Robbie and actor-comedian Danny Thomas.[5][6] They began play in the AFL in 1966. The region had not had a professional football team since the days of the Miami Seahawks, who played in the All-America Football Conference in 1946, before becoming the first incarnation of the Baltimore Colts. For the first few years, the Dolphins’ full-time training camp and practice facilities were at Saint Andrew’s School, a private boys boarding prep school in Boca Raton.[7] In 1967, rookie head coach George Wilson was hired; he ledMiami to an 11–3 record and its second AFL championship before resigning because of illness midway through 1968.[8]

Two years later, Shula was hired as head coach. He quickly led them to becoming regular contenders for most of his 23 seasons with Miami, culminating with appearances in Super Bowls VI, VII and VIII; they lost all three contests. Under Shula’s leadership, Miami posted losing records only four times (in 1976, 1979, 1989 and 1990), while compiling an all-time regular season record of 347–173–6 (.665), winning five division titles.[5][9] The Dolphins have appeared in 27 playoff games under Shula’s tenure,[10] winning 20 of those contests including two Super Bowls: Super Bowl VII after a perfect regular season consisting of a then-NFL record 17 consecutive victories,[11][12] and Super Bowl VIII following a 14–0 regular season.[13][14] Those two Super Bowl victories are also notable for being among only four teams ever to win back-to-back championships – along with Green Bay Packers (Super Bowls I & II) & Baltimore Ravens (Super Bowls XXXV &XXXVI).[15][16]

New York Jets

The New York Jets are a professional American football team located in the New York metropolitan area. The Jets compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference East division. The team is headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey. In a unique arrangement for the league, the Jets share MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey with the New York Giants. The franchise is legally and corporately registered as New York Jets, LLC.

The team was founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original member of the American Football League; later, the franchise joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team began to play in 1960 at the Polo Grounds. Under new ownership, the current name was adopted in 1963 and the franchise moved to Shea Stadium in 1964 and then to Giant Stadium in 1984. The team played their home games at MetLife Stadium from 2010 to 2017; beginning in 2018, they will return to MetLife Stadium along with the Giants.

The Jets advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 1968 and went on to compete in Super Bowl III where they defeated the Baltimore Colts by a score of 16-7, becoming world champions. Since 1968, the Jets have appeared in nine AFC Championship Games (most recently revisiting back-to-back appearances following divisional playoff upsets of San Diego and Indianapolis during 2009’s “Ground & Pound” season), but they have never returned to (or won) Super Bowls after that time despite divisional playoff upsets of Cincinnati twice (in 1981 and 2010), Denver twice (in 1986 and 1998), Miami once (in 1991), Pittsburgh once (in 2011), and Baltimore once (in 2012). Since their AFL–NFL merger championship victory 50 years ago back on January 12th 1969 – when Joe Namath famously guaranteed victory over an 18-point favorite Colts squad – none of their nine trips since have resulted beyond merely appearing as underdogs:They were an underdog when they beat everyone’s Lombardi’s Packers squad 16-7 behind Matt Snell’s anti-climactic quarterbacking performance for their only league/super title; every following appearance has been by double digits as underdogs: by 10 points versus Oakland’s eventual 3-time champion squad led by Ken Stabler 24-14 en route to losing 27-23 following Broadway Joe’s Pick 6 Interception return touchdown with just over a minute left that allowed Oakland back into the game they trailed 14-0 early; by 11 points at home 10-21 against Walter Payton’s eventual champion Bears squad en route to losing 17-10; by 7 points at Denver 23-30 behind Mark Gastineau’s picked off Hail Mary heave into double coverage as time ran out that allowed Broncos linebacker Tom Jackson – who had screamed “Gastineau, you cheap shot artist! This one’s going into overtime!… You don’t deserve [to win]!… You guys stink! You guys choked! You guys choked! Let’s go into overtime!… I guarantee you we’re going to kick your butts!” – led his teammates off field while taunting Gastineau & his teammates who then were pelted by flying objects hurled by defending Broncos fans among others;

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.

The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocate the franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between the league and the city of Cleveland, Modell was required to leave the Browns’ history and records in Cleveland for a replacement team and replacement personnel that would take control in 1999. In return, he was allowed to take his own personnel and team to Baltimore, where such personnel would then form an expansion team. The Ravens have qualified for the NFL playoffs ten times since 2000, with two Super Bowl victories (Super Bowl XXXV and Super Bowl XLVII), two AFC Championship titles (2000 and 2012), 15 playoff victories (10th all-time), and are currently one of only three teams to hold a perfect record in multiple Super Bowl appearances.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have played in the NFL since 1933. The team has won six Super Bowl championships, more than any other team in the NFL.
