Who Retired From The NFL Today?
It’s always sad to see a player retire from the NFL, but sometimes it’s necessary. Keep up with who retired from the NFL today by following this blog.
Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning, who will turn 40 in March, has informed John Elway that he will retire from the NFL, Broncos sources told 9NEWS.
The five-time NFL MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion met with Elway this morning to tell him of his plans to retire. Manning will hold a press conference tomorrow at 11 a.m. to talk about his decision.
Manning is the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards (71,940) and passing touchdowns (539). He is also the only quarterback to win a Super Bowl with two different teams (2006 Colts, 2015 Broncos).
Calvin Johnson
Calvin Johnson, nicknamed “Megatron”, is a former American football wide receiver. He played his entire career for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Johnson led the league in receiving yards in four seasons. He holds the NFL record for single-season receiving yards and touchdown catches.
Marshawn Lynch
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch announced his retirement from the NFL on Sunday night, bringing an end to one of the most successful and colorful careers in recent memory.
Lynch, who turns 30 in April, tweeted a picture of his cleats hanging from a wire with the simple caption “Peace out.” He later confirmed his retirement to ESPN’s Dirk Koetter.
A five-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro, Lynch was one of the driving forces behind the Seahawks’ run to Super Bowl XLVIII, where they defeated the Broncos 43-8. He was also a key part of their return to the Super Bowl the following year, when they lost to the Patriots 28-24.
In nine seasons with the Seahawks and Buffalo Bills, Lynch racked up 9,112 rushing yards and 74 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
