The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.

The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1925 and 1950. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan. They joined the American Professional Football Association (later renamed the National Football League) on August 11, 1921, becoming only the second team to do so sine Decatur Staleys

NFL records

In the National Football League (NFL), records are the accomplishments of individual players and teams. The NFL keeps a record book for single-game, single-season, and career statistics for both teams and individuals.[1] The league began compiling official statistics in 1932, but many statistics date back much further than that. The records are maintained by the NFL’s Elias Sports Bureau.[2]

There are an infinite number of football records that could be tracked, so the NFL recognizes a select few as “official” records. To be considered an official record by the NFL, a feat must occur during a game that is recognized by the NFL as an “NFL game”. This includes regular season games, playoff games, and Pro Bowls. When a record occurs in a game outside of these parameters (such as in pre-season games or non-NFL games like the Senior Bowl or All-Star Football Classic), it is not recognized by the NFL as an “official” record.

Some of the most notable official NFL records include:
* Most passing yards in a season: 5,477 – Peyton Manning (2013)
* Most rushing yards in a season: 2,105 – Eric Dickerson (1984)
* Most receiving yards in a season: 1,964 – Jerry Rice (1995)
* Most sacks in a season: 22.5 – Michael Strahan (2001)
