Who Was Claimed Off Waivers in the NFL?
The NFL season is in full swing and there have been some big waiver wire pickups so far. Who are the top players who have been claimed off waivers?
Transactions
As the NFL season rapidly approaches, all teams are focusing on putting together the best 53-man roster they can. Several players were claimed off waivers this past week, including TE Zach Ertz, LB Kamu Grugier-Hill, and CB Sidney Jones IV. These players will now have an opportunity to prove themselves with their new teams and earn a spot on the active roster.
Review all the NFL transactions from the previous day
All transactions occurring in the National Football League on a given day are collected and recorded in one place. It is a way for fans and fantasy football players to see who was traded, released, signed, or placed on waivers. Transactions are also a way for teams to improve their rosters by adding new talent or dumping players that are no longer needed.
The NFL Transactions report is released every day, usually around noon Eastern time. It lists all of the previous day’s transactions, including player trades, free agent signings, releases, and waiver claims. The report is sorted by team, so it’s easy to see who your favorite team has been up to.
You can find the NFL Transactions report on the NFL website or on most fantasy football websites.

When a player is waived, they are removed from their team’s active roster. If the player is not claimed by another team within 24 hours, they become a free agent and can sign with any team, including their former team.
Waiver Claims
The NFL waiver system is a process where teams can claim players who are released by other teams. A player who is claimed off of waivers is added to the claiming team’s roster and is given a contract. The player’s former team is relieved of his contract and is not entitled to any compensation.
Review the NFL waiver system
In the NFL, when a player is released, he is placed on waivers. Waivers gives all teams a chance to claim the player. The order in which teams can claim a player is based on the current NFL standings, with the team with the worst record being first in line. If more than one team claims the same player off waivers, the team with worst record will get him.
When a player is claimed off waivers, he is awarded to that team and his new contract is automatically assigned. The player’s old team has no say in where he goes and they do not receive any compensation for him.
If no team claims a player off waivers, he becomes a free agent and can sign with any team of his choosing.

After the cut-down to 53-player rosters is complete, waiver claims can be made for players who were released by their previous team. Waiver claims are processed on a first come, first served basis, and each team is allowed to make a maximum of 7 claims per year. Here are the players who were claimed off waivers during the 2018 NFL season:
QB E.J. Manuel, Raiders
RB Troymaine Pope, Seahawks
WR Tanner McEvoy, Bills
TE Scott Orndoff, Steelers
OL Givens Price, Cardinals
DL Josh Augusta, Patriots
LB Sione Teuhema, Jaguars
CB Cre’von LeBlanc, Eagles
Find the teams who claimed them
When a player is waived, the team waives their rights to that player and any other team can claim him off waivers. If more than one team claims a player off waivers, the team with the worst record gets the player.
For example, if the 0-16 Cleveland Browns waive a player and the 10-6 New England Patriots claim him as well, the Patriots would get the player because they have a better record than the Browns.
If two teams with identical records both claim a player off waivers, then it goes to whoever’s in their division – so if the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans both claimed a guy off waivers, he would go to whichever of those two teams is in his division.
