Who Was In The 2020 Nfl Draft?

The 2020 NFL Draft was held April 23-25, 2020. It was originally scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was instead held virtually for the first time in history.

Joe Burrow

Joe Burrow was drafted first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He was the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner and was also a consensus All-American.

LSU

Joe Burrow (born December 10, 1996) is an American football quarterback for the LSU Tigers. He transferred to LSU from Ohio State in 2018. As a graduate transfer, he was eligible to play for the Tigers immediately in the 2018 season. In his first and only year as starter for the Tigers, Burrow led the team to a perfect 15-0 record, including a 42-25 win over Clemson in the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship. In that game, he set multiple bowl and CFP records, including most passing yards in a game (484), most passing touchdowns in a game (seven), and most points responsible for by one player in a national championship game (42). For his accomplishments during the season, he unanimously won the 2019 Heisman Trophy, becoming LSU’s second Heisman winner after Billy Cannon in 1959.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals selected Joe Burrow with the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Bengals traded down from the first pick with the Miami Dolphins, who took quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall selection.

Burrow, a native of Athens, Ohio, played college football at Louisiana State University (LSU). He was a two-time All-American and won the Heisman Trophy as the nation’s most outstanding player in 2019. As a senior, he led LSU to an undefeated season and a national championship.

Burrow is expected to be the Bengals’ starting quarterback in 2020. He will be joined by fellow rookies Tee Higgins and Josiah Deguara as well as second-year players Ryan Finley and Trayveon Williams in an revamped offensive attack under new head coach Zac Taylor.

Jeff Okudah was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was the third overall pick. Okudah is a 6’1″, 205-pound cornerback from Ohio State. He was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-Big Ten selection. Okudah had four interceptions and nine pass breakups in his final season at Ohio State.

New York Giants

The New York Giants selected Andrew Thomas with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Thomas, an offensive tackle from Georgia, was widely considered to be one of the best prospects at his position. He is expected to immediately step into a starting role for the Giants.

Tua Tagovailoa

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick. Tagovailoa, who had been widely projected as a top-three pick before suffering a season-ending hip injury in November, was the first non-quarterback taken in the draft.

Tagovailoa began his freshman year of high school in 2012 and led his team to an undefeated 15–0 record and the state championship. As a freshman at Alabama in 2017, he was offensive co-MVP of the national championship game after filling in for an injured Jalen Hurts during the second half of their come-from-behind victory over Georgia. In 2018, he became Alabama’s starter and led them to another undefeated regular season. He helped lead Alabama to a comeback win over Georgia in the 2018 SEC Championship Game, throwing the game-winning touchdown pass in overtime. Tagovailoa was named MVP of both the SEC Championship Game and Orange Bowl (a College Football Playoff semifinal) as Alabama defeated Oklahoma to advance to the National Championship Game, which they lost to Clemson.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins selected Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was the first quarterback drafted in the first round by the Dolphins since Dan Marino in 1983.

Tagovailoa entered his rookie season as the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick. He made his NFL debut on October 25, 2020, against the Los Angeles Rams, and came in for Fitzpatrick in the third quarter. He completed 11 of 20 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown in a 28–17 loss. The following week, against the New York Jets, he replaced an injured Fitzpatrick in the second quarter and led the team to a 24–0 victory, completing 12 of 22 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. He was named the starter for Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. In his first start, Tagovailoa threw for 293 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception as the Dolphins won 34–31 in overtime.
