The Indianapolis Colts selected Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
It was widely assumed that the Colts would select Luck, as he was widely considered to be one of the best quarterback prospects in recent years. Prior to the draft, Colts owner Jim Irsay said that the team would “take Luck if everything’s equal” with regard to him and another player.
In four years at Stanford, Luck threw for 9,430 yards and 82 touchdowns. He helped lead the Cardinal to a 11-2 record in 2011, including a win over Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.
Robert Griffin III
The first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft was Robert Griffin III, a quarterback from Baylor University. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins, and went on to have a successful rookie season, setting multiple franchise records.
Trent Richardson
With the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson. Matt Kalil was the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. A standout offensive tackle from USC, Kalil was selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the fourth overall pick. He would go on to start all 16 games as a rookie, helping to anchor an improved Vikings offense. Kalil has continued to be a key part of the Vikings’ offensive line over the past few seasons, and is widely considered to be one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL today.
