Vinny Testaverde
Vinny Testaverde was the oldest quarterback to play in the NFL when he took to the field for the Carolina Panthers in 2007. He was 44 years and 3 months old at the time.
Testaverde began his NFL career in 1987 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and also played for the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots during his 21-year career. He was a first-round draft pick and became known for his strong arm and accuracy.
In 2007, after a series of injuries to other quarterbacks on the Panthers’ roster, Testaverde was signed as a backup. However, he was pressed into action when starter David Carr went down with an injury in Week 3. Testaverde played well, leading the Panthers to a victory over the Houston Texans.
Although he only played in that one game, Testaverde’s performance earned him a place in NFL history. He became the oldest quarterback to win an NFL game, as well as the oldest player at any position to throw a touchdown pass in an NFL game.
