Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavaliers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavs have played their home games at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland.
The Cavaliers name was chosen by owner Ted Stepien in 1971. The franchise joined the NBA as a result of the NBA–ABA merger in 1976, and has since appeared in the NBA Finals three times, winning the championship in 2016. The Oklahoma City Thunder are one of the most talented and deepest teams in the NBA. With stars like Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, the Thunder have all the pieces necessary to win an NBA championship. However, they have yet to put it all together and win a title. They will be looking to take the next step this season and win their first NBA championship.
San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. The Spurs compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
The Spurs are one of four former American Basketball Association teams to remain intact in the NBA after the 1976 ABA–NBA merger and are the only former ABA team to have won an NBA championship.(The Spurs won their first NBA title in 1999.) From 1999 to 2016, the Spurs averaged 50 wins per season, ranking them 16th among all NBA teams during that span. As of 2019, Spurs have the sixth-highest winning percentage among all NBA franchises since their founding.
