The 2008 NBA Finals was the championship series of the 2007–08 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, and the conclusion of the season’s playoffs. The Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics defeated the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers four games to two in a best-of-seven series, making this Boston’s record 17th NBA championship overall (their first since 1986 and first as an aging “Big Three”). This was also Los Angeles’ NBA Finals appearance without Shaquille O’Neal, their leader during their threepeat from 2000 to 2002. Ray Allen led all scorers with 26 points per game during the series, and was named Finals MVP for becoming only the second player ever, after Michael Jordan in 1992, to win a Finals MVP award with two different teams.
The 2008 NBA Finals were televised on ABC under a contract that spanned 30 years and $2.4 billion dollars.

The Detroit Pistons were the 2008 NBA Champions. They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games, becoming the first team since the 1990–91 Chicago Bulls to win an NBA Championship by sweeping the first two rounds of the playoffs and then winning each of the next four games by double digits.
