Who Won the 2019 NBA Finals?

The 2019 NBA Finals are over, and the Toronto Raptors are the champions! Here’s a recap of the series and a look at who won each game.

The Golden State Warriors

The Warriors’ Regular Season

The Warriors began the 2018-19 season by winning their first 12 games. They suffered losses to the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers, but still held the best record in the Western Conference at 20-10. The Warriors then went on a five-game winning streak that included victories over the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, and Oklahoma City Thunder. The Warriors’ next loss came against the Mavericks, but they bounced back with a win over the Pelicans. In their final game before Christmas, the Warriors won a thrilling overtime contest against the Lakers.

The Warriors’ play was more inconsistent after Christmas, as they alternated wins and losses for much of January and February. They had a four-game losing streak in late January/early February that included losses to the Jazz, Rockets, Sixers, and Pistons. The Warriors got back on track with a win over the Pelicans, but then lost to the Timberwolves and Spurs.

In March, the Warriors went on a seven-game winning streak that included victories over the Pelicans (twice), Rockets, Jazz, Thunder (twice), and Blazers. They then lost to the Bucks before closing out the month with four consecutive wins. In April, the Warriors continued their strong play as they won eight of their nine games. This run included a 117-91 victory over the Mavericks in which Stephen Curry scored 41 points.

The Warriors’ Postseason

After home-court losses in Games 3 and 4 to the Toronto Raptors, the Warriors found themselves in a must-win Game 5 back at Oracle Arena. They did just that, winning 106-105 on a late three-pointer from Curry to take a 3-2 lead in the series. However, they would go on to lose Game 6 back in Toronto, setting up a winner-take-all Game 7 back at Oracle. In what would end up being one of the most thrilling games in NBA history, the Warriors came out on top, winning 114-110 to claim their sixth NBA title in franchise history.

The Toronto Raptors

In a historic victory, the Toronto Raptors have won their first NBA Championship. This is the first time a Canadian team has won the NBA Finals. The Raptors were led by Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, who averaged 28.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

The Raptors’ Regular Season

The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They were established in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. When the Grizzlies relocate to Memphis, Tennessee to become the Memphis Grizzlies in 2001, the Raptors became the only Canadian-based team in the NBA until another expansion team, the Montreal Canadiens, joined in 2020.

The Raptors play their home games at Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. They are currently coached by Nick Nurse and are owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. The Raptors president of basketball operations is Masai Ujiri.

The Raptors’ Postseason
