Who Won 2020 MVP?
The 2020 NBA MVP race is heating up. Who do you think will take home the coveted award this season?
LeBron James
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers was named the 2020 NBA Most Valuable Player on Tuesday, edging out Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks in a close vote.
The 34-year-old James, who becomes a four-time MVP, joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan and Bill Russell as the only players in NBA history to win the award with three different franchises. He won his first two MVPs with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.
James received 10 first-place votes and 554 total points from a panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Antetokounmpo, the 2019 MVP, finished second with 8 first-place votes and 530 total points.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks has been named the 2020 NBA Most Valuable Player. He is the first European player to earn the honor in the NBA’s 71-year history.
The 6’11” Greek forward averaged 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game during the 2019-2020 regular season, leading the Bucks to the best record in the NBA. He also shot a career-best 54.7 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from three-point range.
Kawhi Leonard
Kawhi Leonard was unanimously voted the NBA’s Most Valuable Player on Wednesday, becoming just the third player in league history to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
The Los Angeles Clippers star forward joined Michael Jordan (1991, ‘92) and Steve Nash (2005, ‘06) as the only players to win MVP honors in consecutive seasons. Shaquille O’Neal came close to joining that select group, but he finished second to Allen Iverson in 2001 after winning MVP in 2000.
Leonard received all 101 first-place votes from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters. He finished with 938 points, ahead of Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (836) and Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic (767).
Anthony Davis
The 2020 NBA MVP was awarded to Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers. He is the first Lakers player to win the award since Kobe Bryant in 2008, and the first non- guards to win it since Tim Duncan in 2014-15. Davis averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 50.3% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range.
Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic has been officially crowned the 2020 MVP, becoming the first European-born player in NBA history to win the prestigious individual award.
The Denver Nuggets star received 91 of a possible 100 first-place votes from a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, with Houston Rockets guard James Harden coming in second with the other nine first-place votes. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Sixers center Joel Embiid and Lakers forward LeBron James rounded out the top five.
