Tom Brady

Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes is an American football quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). He is the current reigning Super Bowl MVP and was the 2018 NFL MVP. He led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory in 2020, and was also named the Super Bowl LIV MVP.

In his first full season as starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes led the team to a 12-4 record and a divisional playoff appearance. He completed 66.0 percent of his passes for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns with only 12 interceptions. He also rushed for another 348 yards and two touchdowns. His passer rating was 112.8, and he was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year.

Accolades

In his first full season as starter, Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first division title in six years, and was voted the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) by a unanimous vote, becoming just the second quarterback to do so. He became the youngest player (and the first Chiefs player) to win the award in its 61-year history. He also was named First Team All-Pro. In 2018, he won the AFC Offensive Player of the Year, and was named to the NFL’s All-Pro Second Team. The following year, Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years, and their first championship in 50 years. He was named Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 286 yards and two touchdowns as the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31–20.

Rodgers had an incredible season in 2022, leading the league in passing yards (4,802), touchdown passes (48), and QB rating (122.5). He was also named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the second time in his career.

Dak Prescott had an incredible season and was definitely deserving of the NFL MVP award. He led the league in passing yards and touchdowns, and was a big part of the Dallas Cowboys’ success. Let’s take a look at some of his stats from the 2022 season.

Stats

Dak Prescott was the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys from 2016 to 2019. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cowboys. He played college football at Mississippi State University.

In his rookie season, Prescott became the Cowboys’ starting quarterback after Tony Romo suffered a back injury during a preseason game. Prescott led the Cowboys to an NFCEast title and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

In his second season, Prescott helped the Cowboys win an NFC-best 13 games and capture another NFC East title. He was named to his first Pro Bowl and was named second-team All-Pro.

In his third season, Prescott led the Cowboys to a 10-6 record and another NFC East title. He was named to his second Pro Bowl and was again named second-team All-Pro.

In 2019, Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Cowboys, making him one of the highest-paid players in NFL history.

Russell Wilson

Wilson was a clear favorite for the award after leading the Seahawks to a 12-4 record and a playoff berth. He also set a career high in passing yards (4,219) and touchdowns (34) while throwing just seven interceptions.

Russell Wilson had another amazing season in 2020, setting career highs in passing yards (4,212), passing touchdowns (42), and quarterback rating (110.9). He also ran for 506 yards and three touchdowns. His total QBR of 75.5 was the second best in the NFL behind only Patrick Mahomes. For his career, Wilson has now thrown for over 11,000 yards and 100 touchdowns, while rushing for nearly 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl six times and was the NFL MVP in 2014.

Accolades

In 2015, Wilson became the NFL’s highest-paid player, when he signed a four-year, $87.6 million extension with the Seahawks. In 2019, he was ranked the NFL’s 20th best player by his fellow players. In 2020, he was named to his fifth Pro Bowl.

Other Candidates

In a close race, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers won the award by a slim margin over Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills were the other two finalists.

Josh Allen

Josh Allen was born on May 21, 1996, in Firebaugh, California. He is an NFL quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. Allen played college football at Wyoming. He was drafted by the Bills in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson is an American football quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Louisville, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2016. Jackson was selected with the 32nd overall pick by the Ravens in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He is the reigning NFL MVP, and in 2019, he led the Ravens to their first AFC North division title since 2012 and was selected as a first-team All-Pro and named to the Pro Bowl for a second consecutive year.

Kyler Murray

Kyler Murray played college football at the University of Oklahoma, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2018. He was drafted first overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Murray led the Cardinals to a 5-10-1 record and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
