The Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games, winning their seventeenth NBA championship. The Celtics earned their sixth straight trip to the Finals with a hard-fought victory over the Houston Rockets in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Lakers had an easier road to the Finals, defeating the Nuggets and the Spurs in five and six games respectively. The Finals were dominated by the two veterans on each team: Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol for the Lakers, and Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce for the Celtics. Ray Allen was also a key player for Boston, hitting several clutch three-pointers throughout the series. In Game 6, with the score tied at 87 in the closing minutes, Allen hit a three-pointer that proved to be the winning basket.
2010
The Boston Celtics won the 2010 NBA Championship after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games. The Celtics were led by their “Big Three” of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, who were all acquired via trade prior to the season. Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, and Glen Davis were also key contributors for the team. Head coach Doc Rivers won his first NBA Championship with the Celtics in 2010.

The 2012 Boston Celtics season was the 66th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Celtics finished the regular season with a 39–27 record, good enough for seventh place in the Eastern Conference. They went on to lose in the first round of the playoffs to the eighth-seeded Atlanta Hawks, 4 games to 2.

In the 2008–09 season, the defending champion Boston Celtics held the best record in the NBA for most of the season, but the Lakers caught up and finished first in the Western Conference with 65 wins. In the playoffs, they defeated Houston in five games in the First Round, Utah Jazz in seven games in the Semifinals, and Orlando Magic in five games in the Finals. Their 15th championship tied them with Boston for second-most all-time behind Philadelphia’s nine titles.

The Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals for the fourth time in a row, winning the series 4–2. This was also LeBron James’s eighth consecutive appearance in the NBA Finals.
