He joins Dwight Howard (2009-10, 2010-11) and Ben Wallace (2002-03, 2003-04) as the only players to win the award in consecutive seasons multiple times.

“Rudy’s commitment to excellence on both ends of the floor has helped him become one of the best players in our league,” said Jazz head coach Quin Snyder. “His defensive instincts, length and athleticism allow him to impact the game at an elite level on a nightly basis. Rudy’s leadership and constant hustle are contagious and have helped establish our defensive identity.”

Gobert led the league in blocks per game (2.7) and total blocks (147) while also ranking second in defensive rating (98.7) and fourth in rebounds per game (13.5). He helped anchor a Jazz defense that finished second in opponents’ points per 100 possessions (102.4), third in opponents’ field goal percentage (.438) and fifth in opponents’ 3-point percentage (.349).
