The Esports Awards 2019 took place on November 16th in Arlington, Texas at the Esports Stadium Arlington. This was the fifth edition of the awards show and it was hosted by Alex Mendez and Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere. There were a total of 24 award categories and the nominees were voted on by the public. G2 Esports currently has teams in League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League and Hearthstone.

Fnatic is a professional esports organization headquartered in London, United Kingdom. Founded 23 July 2004, the team has players from around the world, across a variety of games, such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm, League of Legends and Overwatch.

It was a night to remember for many at the Esports Awards 2019, with some of the biggest names in the industry taking home prizes. In the Game of the Year category, the big winner was Fortnite, with Apex Legends and Overwatch coming in second and third, respectively. In the Esports Team of the Year category, G2 Esports took home the prize, with Team Liquid and Astralis coming in second and third, respectively.

The most famous and well-known game out of the bunch, League of Legends (LOL) is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game. Developed by Riot Games, LOL pits two teams of five players against each other with the objective to destroy each other’s nexus, which is guarded by numerous defensive structures. First released in 2009, LOL has undergone many changes and updates throughout the years, with the most recent update being patch 9.9 in May 2019. The game is extremely popular all around the world, with a large competitive scene. The game has seen players from all around the world rise to prominence, with some even going on to become millionaires. The game is free-to-play and is supported by microtransactions.
The second most popular game is Fortnite Battle Royale, which was developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly. The game was first released in 2017 as a paid early access title for Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game quickly gained popularity as it was released for free on iOS devices in 2018 followed by Android devices in 2019. The objective of the game is to be the last player or team standing, and players can do so either by eliminating all other players or being the last ones alive when the storm clears. The game has seen tremendous success and has even managed to dethrone LOL as the most popular game in some regions.
The third most popular game is Overwatch, which was developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. Overwatch is a team-based first-person shooter which puts two teams of six players against each other in various objective-based modes. The game was first released in 2016 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Overwatch quickly became popular owing to its unique gameplay mechanics and characters as well as its competitive scene.
