Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.
The Packers are the last of the “old-guard” teams that were founded by ex-players from that era; their distorted vision of balance, exemplified best by Packers co-founder Curly Lambeau’s insistence on an even distribution of players among the various positions, stunted for many years the growth of statistics as a meaningful analytical tool for understanding and predicting success in football. In more recent years, however, behind head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson’s guidance, as well as breakout seasons from offensive stars such as quarterback Aaron Rodgers and receiver Jordy Nelson (both of whom were drafted by Thompson), the Packers have returned to prominence behind a balanced offensive attack coupled with a defense that features perennial All-Pro selections such as linebacker Clay Matthews III and cornerback Charles Woodson.
The Packers have won thirteen league championships – nine NFL Championships pre-1970 and four Super Bowls – most recently Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011 – giving them a total of 30 NFL titles overall, more than any other team. They also recorded 32 winning seasons from 1921 to 2003, with 19 consecutive winning seasons from 1994 to 2012,the second longest streak in NFL history after the New York Yankees dynasty from 1947 to 1964 (29 consecutive winning seasons). The Packers currently hold NFC records for most consecutive road wins (19) and most road games won in a season (12).
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team advanced to eight Super Bowls since then, and has won six of them, most recently Super Bowl LIII in February 2019. The franchise has since set numerous notable records, including most wins in a ten-year period (126, from 2003 to 2012), an undefeated 16-game regular season in 2007, and the longest winning streak consisting of regular season and playoff games in NFL history (21 games from October 2003 to October 2004).
Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 28-24 in Super Bowl XLIX, becoming the first team in a decade to repeat as champions.
The Seahawks picked off Tom Brady twice in the game’s final minutes, including a game-sealing interception by Malcolm Butler at the goal line with 20 seconds left. Russell Wilson was named Super Bowl MVP after completing 12 of 21 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team in the National Football League (NFL). They arebased in Arlington, Texas, and play their home games at AT&T Stadium in nearby Arlington. The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive home sell-outs. The Cowboys’ streak began in 2002, and included 160 consecutive sold-out regular and post-season games – a NFL record that remains unchallenged and which helped them purchase the team in 2009.
The Cowboys are the richest valued sports franchise in the United States, worth approximately $4 billion dollars according to Forbes. They are also one of the most successful teams in the history of the NFL, having made eight Super Bowl appearances, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos for second most Super Bowl appearances behind only the New England Patriots’ nine appearances.
Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football franchise based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Cardinals compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The Cardinals were founded as the Morgan Athletic Club in 1898, and are the oldest continuously run professional football team in the United States. The Cardinals play their home games at State Farm Stadium, which opened in 2006 and is located in Glendale, Arizona.
