NHL Teams
As the 2021 NHL season comes to an end, we take a look at the teams that made it to the playoffs. The Tampa Bay Lightning were the Stanley Cup champions, but there were other teams that had a great season as well. Let’s take a look at the top teams in the NHL.

The team has been in existence since 1924, making them the third-oldest active team in the NHL, and the oldest to be based in the United States.
The Bruins have won six Stanley Cup championships, tied for fourth most of any team with the Blackhawks and tied for second most of any US-based NHL team with the Canadiens. They are also one of only two NHL teams to win their first Stanley Cup in their first season after joining the league, along with the expansion St. Louis Blues (in 1967–68).

The regular season is followed by the playoffs, which is a single-elimination tournament to determine the Stanley Cup champion. In recent years, the playoffs have been expanded to include 24 teams (12 from each conference). The first two rounds are best-of-seven series, and the conference finals and Stanley Cup Final are best-of-seven series.
The 2021 NHL regular season was shortened to 56 games due to the COVID pandemic.
Stanley Cup Playoffs
The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are a best-of-seven elimination tournament among 16 teams (eight from each conference) that qualified for the playoffs. The playoffs began on April 11 and ended on June 11, with the Tampa Bay Lightning winning the Stanley Cup for the second time in their history.

The Stanley Cup was first awarded in 1893, making it the oldest professional hockey championship in North America. The Montreal Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup a record 24 times and have been the most successful NHL franchise since 1915.
