We take a look at who the favourites are to win the Rookie of the Year award in the NBA for the 2020/2021 season.

Zion Williamson

Zion Williamson was the easy choice for the 2021 Rookie of the Year. He averaged 27.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 58.3% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range. He was the best player on the Pelicans and one of the best players in the entire league. There’s no doubt that he deserved the award.

Zion Williamson (born July 6, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played one season of college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils, winning several national accolades. He was drafted first overall by the Pelicans in the 2019 NBA draft. Williamson is considered one of the best players in the NBA, and has been praised for his shooting, playmaking and dunking abilities.

At 6’7″, Williamson is one of the most physically imposing players in the NBA. He’s a threat to score inside and out, and he’s an excellent rebounder. Williamson is also a good defender, using his quickness and strength to bother opponents.

Ja Morant was born in Dalzell, South Carolina on February 10, 1999. He is an American professional basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Morant played college basketball for the Murray State Racers. He was unanimously selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, and also received the Adolph Rupp Trophy as national college basketball player of the year. He was drafted with the second overall pick by the Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA draft. In his rookie season, Morant was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and earned a spot on the NBA All-Star Rising Stars Challenge roster.

Ja Morant was born on August 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina, to Tee and Tianna Morant. He has two older sisters, Jamyra and Jazmyn. He began playing basketball at age four.

Morant attended Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. As a freshman, he averaged 18.6 points and 6.5 assists per game. In his sophomore year, he averaged 21.5 points and 8.3 assists per game, leading his team to the state playoffs. As a junior, he averaged 24.5 points, 8.7 assists, and 6.5 rebounds per game. He was named the Class AAAAA Player of the Year by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (SCBCA).

In his senior year, Morant averaged 28.1 points, 8., 6., and 2 steals per game. He led Crestwood to the state playoffs for the fourth straight year and was once again named the SCBCA Class AAAAA Player of the Year.

Morant was not heavily recruited out of high school and only received scholarship offers from Murray State University and one other school
