The 2005 NBA Finals was the championship series of the 2004–05 National Basketball Association season. It was played between the Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs and Eastern Conference champion Detroit Pistons, This was Detroit’s first trip to the NBA Finals since winning consecutive championships in 1989 and 1990. The Spurs won 4 games to 3 over Detroit, becoming only the fourth team in NBA history—and first since 1988—to win a title after trailing 0–2 in the Finals (the others being 1969, 1977 and 2006). It also marked Tim Duncan’s third championship with Robert Horry tying John Stockton and Karl Malone for second place with his seventh. With Duncan as their leader and Horry coming up huge on multiple occasions throughout these playoffs, they both joined Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal as players with three or more Finals MVP awards each.

The Detroit Pistons won the 2005 NBA Finals. They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. This was the Pistons’ third NBA Finals victory.
