Dallas increased their lead to 13 points, their largest of the game, with 8:34 left in the quarter. After a Miami timeout, Wade scored six straight points to cut the lead to seven. Nowitzki made a jump shot to stop the run and put Dallas back up by nine. The Mavericks continued to build their lead, going up by as many as 15 points late in the quarter. Wade scored eight points in the final minute to keep Miami within reach, but Dallas still led 84–75 going into the fourth quarter.
