The 2019 Esports Awards

The Esports Awards is an annual awards ceremony to recognize the achievements within the competitive gaming industry. The Esports Awards ceremony is split into two parts. The first part is the Industry Awards, which consists of 28 categories that are voted on by a jury of industry experts. The second part is the Fans’ Choice Awards, where the winners are determined by public vote. Here are the winners of the 2019 Esports Awards.

Game of the Year

The Game of the Year category at the 2019 Esports Awards celebrates the title that has provided the most outstanding competitive experience over the past 12 months.

The nominees for Game of the Year are:
-League of Legends
-Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
-Overwatch
-Dota 2
-Fortnite

And the winner is… League of Legends!

Esports Team of the Year

Fnatic is a world leader in competitive gaming. The global organisation today houses pro teams specialising in League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch and more.
Fnatic entered the Dota 2 scene in September 2012 with the signing of Team Malaysia. TI3 was an important year for the organisation as they claimed 3rd-4th place at The International. A lot has changed since then and they have since signed some big names including Chai ‘Mushi’ Yee Fung, who is now a three time Major winner.
With the Dota 2 landscape ever changing, it’s hard to stay on top and Fnatic has managed to do so by winning 7 out of 8 tournaments they have attended this year. That includes winning ESL One Birmingham 2019, securing 1st place at both MDL Disneyland Paris Major and China Dota2 Supermajor; as well as taking home the trophy at DAC 2018.
With a solid performance this year, it comes to no surprise that Fnatic was nominated for and won Esports Team of the Year 2019.

Esports Athlete of the Year

The Esports Athlete of the Year was selected by a vote from the public, and the winner was Jakub “Kuben” Gurczynski, a Polish professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player.
