Eastern Conference

It was a close game but the Cavaliers managed to pull through and beat the Celtics with a final score of 98-95. The Cavaliers are now heading to the finals where they will face off against the Golden State Warriors.

Boston Celtics

Leading by as many as 28 points, the Boston Celtics coasted to a 120-106 victory over the Philadelphia
76ers on Tuesday night. The Celtics had seven players score in double figures, with Jayson Tatum leading the way with 28 points. Kemba Walker added 18 points and nine assists, while Jaylen Brown had 17 points.

The win improves the Celtics to 13-5 on the season, good for second place in the Eastern Conference behind only the Milwaukee Bucks. Boston has now won four games in a row and nine of their last 10. They will look to continue their hot play when they take on the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night.

Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are a professional basketball team based in Brooklyn, New York. The Nets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The team plays its home games at Barclays Center. They are one of two NBA teams located in New York City; the other is the New York Knicks. The team was established in 1967 as a charter franchise of the NBA’s rival league, the American Basketball Association (ABA). They played in New Jersey as the New Jersey Americans during their first season, before moving to Long Island in 1968 and changing their name to the New York Nets. During this time, the Nets won two ABA championships (in 1974 and 1976). In 1976, the ABA merged with the NBA, and the Nets were absorbed into the NBA along with three other ABA teams (the San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, and Denver Nuggets), all of whom remain in the league to this day.

The Nets experienced some success early on, making it to three consecutive NBA Finals from 2002 to 2004 with two Eastern Conference championships coming in back-to-back seasons (2002–03 and 2003–04). However, since 2004, they have failed to make it back to Finals or even a Conference Finals appearance. They have never been able to make much noise during free agency either despite having superstar players such as Kevin Garnett and Kyrie Irving on their roster at various points over recent years.

New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are a professional basketball team based in New York City. The Knicks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Madison Square Garden, an arena they share with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). They are one of two NBA teams located in New York City; the other is the Brooklyn Nets. Alongside the Nets, the Knicks are one of two northeastern NBA teams.

The Knicks were established as an expansion team in 1946, and were one of only eight original NBA teams to survive the league’s first decade. They played their home games at the Polo Grounds until 1968, when they moved to Madison Square Garden. The franchise won its only championship in 1970. Since then, they have reached the Conference Finals once (in 1999), and have been division champions four times (in 1971, 1989, 1993 and 1994). However, they have not returned to the NBA Finals since 1970. As of 2019, they also hold record for worst regular season win–loss percentage throughout franchise history (.334%).

Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers (also commonly known as the Sixers) are an American professional basketball team based in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The 76ers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division and play at Wells Fargo Center. Founded in 1946 and originally known as the Syracuse Nationals, they are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA, and one of only eight (out of 23) to survive the league’s first decade.

Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association, as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The team was founded in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. Since their debut, the Raptors have won six division titles and two conference championships. They are the only Canadian-based team in the NBA, and one of two northernmost teams in the league, along with the Denver Nuggets.

Western Conference

The Lakers took on the Nuggets in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The Lakers were able to take an early lead and never looked back, winning the game by a final score of 124-114. LeBron James was once again the star of the show, finishing with 36 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are a professional basketball team based in Dallas, Texas. The Mavericks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the American Airlines Center, which it shares with the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars.

Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are an American professional basketball team based in Denver, Colorado. The Nuggets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The team was founded as the Denver Larks in 1967 as a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association (ABA), but changed its name to Rockets before the first season. It changed its name again to the Nuggets in 1974. After the name change, the Nuggets played for the final ABA Championship title in 1976, losing to the New York Nets.

Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in San Francisco. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association, as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and took the city’s name, before changing its geographic moniker to Golden State in 1971. They play their home games at the Chase Center.

The Warriors have reached nine NBA Finals, winning five NBA championships in 1947, 1956, 1975, 2015, and 2017. With five championships and a Western Conference-leading 27 playoff appearances since 1947, the Warriors are second behind only the Boston Celtics while holding own several all-time NBA records, including best regular season record (73–9 in 2015–16), most wins in a season (Regular season: 67 in 2014–15; Playoffs: 16 in 2015) as well as best combined regular season and playoff record (79–4 in 2016). Four former head coaches (Joe Fulks, Ned Irish, Al Attles and Don Nelson) and four players (Rick Barry, Wilt Chamberlain Jerry Westand Stephen Curry) have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Wilt Chamberlain holds several records including scoring 100 points on March 2 1962 which currently stands as an unbreakable record.

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. Throughout their history, the Rockets have won two NBA championships and four Western Conference titles. The team was established as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team originally based in San Diego, in 1967. In 1971, the Rockets moved to Houston; the following year, the franchise won its first NBA championship after defeating the New York Knicks 4–2 in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The franchise was founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, one of three expansion teams to join the NBA that year. The Braves moved from Buffalo, New York to San Diego, California in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers. In 1984, The franchise moved to Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Lakers are a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association (NBA). They play in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division. The Lakers were founded in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers, one of three professional basketball teams that began play that year. The Lakers franchise relocated from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are an American professional basketball team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Timberwolves compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. Founded in 1989, the team is owned by Glen Taylor who also owns the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. The Timberwolves play their home games at Target Center, their home since 1990.

Like most expansion teams, the Timberwolves struggled in their early years, but after the acquisition of future NBA Most Valuable Player Kevin Garnett in 1995, the team qualified for the playoffs eight consecutive times from 1997 to 2004. In those seven seasons, the team won one division title and advanced to the Western Conference Finals once. Following a disappointing 2004–05 season and missing the playoffs for a second straight year, Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics. Since arriving in Minnesota, Garnett has led the Timberwolves to nine consecutive playoff berths and was instrumental in helping them win eight division titles.

The Thunder was previously known as the Seattle SuperSonics, an expansion team that joined the NBA for the 1967–68 season. The Portland Trail Blazers, commonly known as the Blazers, are an American professional basketball team based in Portland, Oregon. The Trail Blazers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The franchise played its home games in the Memorial Coliseum before moving to Moda Center in 1995 (formerly known as the Rose Garden Arena until June 2010). The team has advanced to the NBA Finals three times, winning the NBA championship once in 1977. Their other NBA Finals appearances were in 1990 and 1992.

The Spurs are one of four former American Basketball Association teams to remain intact in the NBA after the 1976 ABA–NBA merger and are the only former ABA team to have won an NBA championship. The franchise has won five NBA championships, four conference titles, and has made 21 playoff appearances in its 40 seasons of existence. As of 2019, the Spurs have the fifth-highest winning percentage among active NBA franchises.

5. Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz have clinched the best record in the NBA and home-court advantage throughout the Western Conference playoffs. They will open the playoffs at home on Sunday, April 15, against the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers are making their first playoff appearance since 2006.
