So what are baseball fans saying on social media? We took a look at some of the most popular hashtags used by fans on Twitter during the 2016 season to get an idea of the topics that are top of mind.

It’s no secret that baseball fans are some of the most passionate fans in all of sports. They live and breathe their team, and will go to great lengths to support them – whether it’s through buying team merchandise, going to games or cheering them on from home.

But what do baseball fans really think about their teams? We decided to find out by taking a closer look at baseball fan sentiment on social media. To do this, we used ListenFirst Media’s Audience Insights tool to analyze social media posts (Tweets, Facebook comments and posts) from March 28 – April 3, 2017.

We found that overall, baseball fans were most talking about the New York Yankees (30.9%), Los Angeles Dodgers (13.6%) and Boston Red Sox (10.4%).

Fans of the Yankees were largely positive in their sentiment, with 58.7% of posts being classified as “positive.” The team was also mentioned in a total of 92,746 social media posts during the period we analyzed.

The Dodgers had the second-highest volume of mentions with 54,060 mentions, but their sentiment was more evenly split between positive (49.8%) and negative (50.2%).

The Red Sox rounded out the top three with 50,010 mentions and a slightly higher percentage of positive sentiment (51.4%).
