The Grand Slam in tennis is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. But who won it this year?
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal of Spain won the 2014 French Open, his ninth Grand Slam victory, by defeating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in the final, 6–3, 6–2, 6–3. Nadal’s victory made him the only tennis player in history to win at least one Grand Slam tournament for ten consecutive years, surpassing the previous record of nine consecutive years set by Roger Federer.

He has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, the second most in history behind Roger Federer. He is also a former world No. 1 in both singles and doubles, having held both rankings concurrently for 209 weeks.

Novak Djokovic won the men’s single final at the Wimbledon Championship on Sunday, defeating Roger Federer in a five-set thriller, 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12. It was the first time in the Open Era that a men’s singles final was decided by a deciding tiebreaker set.

Djokovic won his eighth Australian Open, tying Roger Federer for the most in history, with a 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 victory over Alexander Zverev in the final. He became the first man in the Open Era to win each of the four Grand Slams at least twice.
Roger Federer
On January 28th, 2018, Roger Federer won the Australian Open, his twentieth Grand Slam singles title. This was an incredible feat, as he is now the oldest man to win a Grand Slam singles title in the Open Era. He is also the only player to have won five or more Grand Slams on three different surfaces (grass, hard court, and clay).

Roger Federer has won the ATP Finals six times, the most of any player in the tournament’s history. He first won the event in 2003, defeating Andre Agassi in the final. Federer then went on to win the tournament four consecutive times from 2004 to 2007. He defeated Lleyton Hewitt in the 2004 final, David Nalbandian in the 2005 and 2006 finals, and Novak Djokovic in the 2007 final. In 2010, he defeated Nikolay Davydenko in the final to win his sixth title.
