The Cavaliers compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavs have played their home games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.

In the 2018-19 season, the Houston Rockets had the best record in the NBA, winning a Franchise record 65 games. They were able to do this behind the great play of their All-Star backcourt, James Harden and Chris Paul. The Rockets were looking to make a deep run in the playoffs, but they ultimately fell short, losing in the second round to the eventual NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.

As of 2020, the Celtics have the most wins of any NBA team by a wide margin, with 33 NBA Championships, which accounts for 24.6% of all NBA Championships ever won.
