Djokovic vs. Nadal

The much-anticipated match between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal has finally come to an end, with Djokovic winning in a close match. This match was one of the most highly-anticipated matches of the year, as both Djokovic and Nadal are two of the best tennis players in the world. Djokovic has now won two out of the three matches he’s played against Nadal this year.

Djokovic’s history with Nadal

Heading into their Wimbledon semifinal clash, Djokovic and Nadal had already played each other 40 times on the ATP Tour, with Nadal leading the head-to-head 24–16. Djokovic had won four of their most recent five meetings, including their two most recent Grand Slam encounters: a five-set classic in the 2014 French Open semifinals, which Djokovic won 6–4, 3–6, 7–6(5), 6–7(3), 9–7 after 5 hours and 17 minutes, and a straightsets victory in last year’s Wimbledon final.

Nadal’s history with Djokovic

Nadal and Djokovic have played each other 55 times (including 11 in Grand Slams), with Djokovic leading 29–26. They are the only men in the Open Era to have played each other that many times. Nadal has won 27 clay court matches against Djokovic, the most by either player against anyone on that surface, as well as 10 hard court matches and six grass court matches. Nadal leads their meetings at the French Open 14–7 (with all but one of their meetings taking place at Roland-Garros), while Djokovic has the edge at Wimbledon 7–6, with all but one of their Wimbledon meetings taking place at the All England Club. At the Australian Open, Nadal has a 5–4 lead, including winning three of their five finals encounters. Two of their three US Open meetings occurred in the final and Nadal leads those 2–1. Nadal is one of only two players to beat Djokovic in all four Grand Slam tournaments; Roger Federer is the other.
