History
The history of Mississippi State University dates back to 1878, when the state legislature created The Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi. The school was first located in Starkville, Mississippi, and then moved to its current location in 1902. Mississippi State University is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant research university, and is classified as an “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity” institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Mississippi State has appeared in seventeen NCAA Tournaments, winning eleven SEC regular season championships along with six SEC tournament championships. The program has also won two national championships: the 2009 College World Series and the 2013 College World Series. As of June 2019, Mississippi State has had 106 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft selections, 44 of which were taken in the first round.
