The following season, he became the first player in NBA history to be elected MVP by a unanimous vote and to lead the league in scoring while shooting above 50–40–90. That same year, the Warriors broke the record for the most wins in an NBA season.
Klay Thompson
Klay Alexander Thompson (born February 8, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson, he played college basketball for three seasons with the Washington State Cougars, where he was a two-time first-team all-conference selection in the Pac-10. He was selected in the first round of the 2011 NBA draft by Golden State with the 11th overall pick.
Draymond Green
Draymond Jamal Green Sr. (born March 4, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Michigan State, where he helped lead the Spartans to two Final Fours. He was drafted 35th overall in the 2012 NBA draft by the Warriors, and went on to win an NBA championship with them in 2015, when he was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. In the 2016–17 season, he helped lead the Warriors to their second consecutive Finals appearance and was again named Defensive Player of the Year.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavaliers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play in 1970 as an expansion team. The team won their first NBA Championship in 2016.

LeBron Raymone James (/ləˈbrɒn/; born December 30, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). James has won three NBA championships (2012, 2013, 2016), four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), three NBA Finals MVP Awards (2012, 2013, 2016), two Olympic gold medals (2008, 2012), an NBA scoring title (2004), and the NBA Rookie of the Year Award (2004). He has also been selected to 12 NBA All-Star teams, 12 All-NBA teams, and six All-Defensive teams.
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving was born on March 23, 1992, in Melbourne, Australia to Drederick and Elizabeth Irving. When Kyrie was just two years old, his father was a professional basketball player in Australia and played for the Bulleen Boomers of the Big V league.
Kyrie’s family moved to the United States when he was four years old. They settled in West Orange, New Jersey where his dad continued to play basketball semi-professionally in the United States Basketball League (USBL).
As a young child, Kyrie often watched his father play and began to develop his own love and skills for the game. Kyrie’s dad coached him in elementary school and AAU basketball. Kyrie played up on age groups when he was younger so that he would be challenged and always working on his game against better competition.
Kevin Love
American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a five-time NBA All-Star and won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016. He was also a member of the gold medal-winning United States national team at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The Cavaliers selected Love with the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft. He competed as a freshman for the UCLA Bruins in 2007–08, winning Pac-10 Rookie of the Year before being selected fifth overall in the 2008 NBA draft by Memphis, who then traded him to Minnesota on draft night. During his six seasons with Minnesota, he established himself as one of the NBA’s premier power forwards, averaging 19.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game while shooting 37.6% from three-point range.
Love was traded to Cleveland in 2014. In his first season there, he helped lead them to an NBA Finals appearance, their first since 2007. The following year, he helped lead them to their first ever NBA championship after coming back from a 3–1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors in The Finals, making him an instrumental part of Cleveland’s title run and becoming beloved by many fans there in turn.
The Finals
The 2016 NBA Finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2015–16 season and conclusion of the 2016 playoffs. The Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the defending NBA champion and Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors 4–3 in a best-of-seven series.
Game 1
The Finals began on June 2, 2016, with Golden State hosting Cleveland. LeBron James scored 24 points in the first half, but the Cavaliers were limited to 39 second-half points and lost 104–89. Draymond Green had a triple double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists while Klay Thompson scored 22 points. Kevin Love was the only other Cavalier in double figures with 20 points and 11 rebounds. For the Warriors, Green was one of four players with more than 20 points, as Stephen Curry had 25, Thompson 22 and Harrison Barnes 24.
Game 2
The Golden State Warriors, led by Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, took on the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The Warriors won, 110-77, to take a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.
The Warriors dominated from start to finish in a game that was never really in doubt. They jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, eventually winning by 33 points. Curry was once again the star for the Warriors, scoring 30 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-11 from three-point range. He also had six rebounds and eight assists. Green had a near triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Klay Thompson also scored 16 points for the Warriors.
For the Cavaliers, James was once again their best player, but he didn’t get much help from his supporting cast. He finished with 19 points on 8-of-20 shooting and also had nine assists. Kyrie Irving was the only other Cavalier in double figures with 15 points. The Cavaliers shot just 35 percent from the field as a team as they struggled to score against the stingy Warriors defense.
Game 3
The Warriors took Game 3 with a 120–108 victory to go up 3–0 in the series. Curry scored 36 points, while Klay Thompson added 21. Draymond Green had a triple double with 16 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds, while also adding 4 blocks. LeBron James had 32 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds for the Cavaliers, while Kevin Love scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Jr Smith had 14 points off the bench in the loss.
Game 4
On Sunday, the Cleveland Cavaliers ended the longest championship drought in NBA history. The Cavs beat the Golden State Warriors 93-89 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals to win the series 4-3.
This was an amazing series in many ways. First, it was a rematch of last year’s Finals, which the Warriors won 4-2. Second, it was a battle between two of the best players in the world: LeBron James of the Cavs and Stephen Curry of the Warriors. Third, each team won all of their home games. And finally, it went to a seventh and deciding game.
In Game 7, both teams played very well defensively. The score was very close throughout the game. With just over a minute left in the fourth quarter, James made a clutch three-point shot to give the Cavs a lead they would never surrender. Afterward, he was named Finals MVP for the third time in his career.
The Cavaliers’ victory ends a 52-year championship drought for Cleveland professional sports teams. It is also the first time an NBA team has come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the Finals.
Game 5
In a back-and-forth game that had more than 20 lead changes, the Cleveland Cavaliers won their first NBA championship in franchise history, 93–89, coming back from a 3–1 deficit to defeat the Golden State Warriors. LeBron James was named Finals MVP.

The Golden State Warriors win the NBA championship in 2016 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.This was a rematch of the 2015 NBA Finals in which the Warriors won in six games. In Game 6, the Warriors took an early lead and never relinquished it, winning 112–97 to close out the series. Andre Iguodala was named the Finals MVP.

The Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals on Sunday, June 19, 116-101, to win the NBA championship. It was the first time in NBA history that two teams had met in the Finals three times in a row. The Warriors won the series 4-3.
