The NBA Finals

The National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals is the championship series of the NBA. The Eastern and Western conference champions play a best-of-seven game series to determine the league champion. The Warriors won the 2019 NBA Finals, beating the Raptors in six games.

The teams

The teams that made it to the 2019 NBA Finals were the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors were the reigning champions, having won the past two NBA Finals. However, the Raptors were determined to dethrone them and take home the championship title.

In the end, it was the Raptors who emerged victorious, winning the series 4-2. It was a historic moment for the team and for Canada as a whole. This was the first time that a Canadian team had ever made it to the NBA Finals, let alone won the whole thing.

The players

The Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team based in Oakland, California. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and took the city’s name, before changing its geographic moniker to Golden State in 1971. They play their home games at the Chase Center.

The Warriors won the inaugural Basketball Association of America (BAA) championship in 1947, and won its second championship in 1956, led by star player Paul Arizin. The team had retired two years earlier following a dispute with ownership, then rejoined the BAA following that league’s merger with the National Basketball League (NBL). In 1975, Golden State earned its first trip to the NBA Finals, which it lost to the Washington Bullets. After winning only 16 games during the 1977–78 season, fire was lit under head coach Al Attles and led by Rick Barry and Jamaal Wilkes, Golden State made a 16-game improvement finishing second overall behind only defending NBA Champion Seattle SuperSonics winning 60 games playing an exciting brand of basketball during what is considered one of greatest seasons by any team that did not win an NBA Championship going into 2019 when they were seeking a fourth title in five years.

Star player Kevin Durant was named Finals MVP for his performances throughout the series.
