Founded in 1946 as one of the league’s original eight teams, the team play their home games at TD Garden, which they share with the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Boston Bruins. The Celtics are one of the most successful teams in NBA history; as of 2019, they have won 22 NBA Championships, which ranks tied for fourth with the Los Angeles Lakers and behind only the New York Knicks (27), San Antonio Spurs (24), and Chicago Bulls (6).
The Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are in the Eastern Conference Finals for the fourth consecutive year. They’ll be up against the Milwaukee Bucks, who are in the playoffs for the first time since 2001. The Heat are looking to make it back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014, when they lost to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Western Conference Finals
The Warriors and the Rockets both had impressive wins in their conference finals games last night. The Warriors won by a score of 118-113, and the Rockets won by a score of 115-86. These two teams will now face off in the NBA Finals.
The Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The Rockets have won two NBA championships and four Western Conference titles. The team was established as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team originally based in San Diego, in 1967. In 1971, the Rockets moved to Houston.
The Rockets won only 15 games in their debut season as a franchise in 1967. In the 1968 NBA draft, the Rockets, picking first overall, selected power forward Elvin Hayes, who would lead the team to its first playoff appearance in his rookie season. The Rockets did not finish a season with a winning record until the 1976–77 season when they traded for center Moses Malone. Malone went on to win the NBA Most Valuable Player award twice and led Houston to nine conference finals appearances and four conference championships during his tenure with the team. He also led them to the 1986 NBA Finals, where they were defeated by the Boston Celtics.
In 218 seasons of play since their establishment as the San Diego Rockets in 1967, through 2019–20, they have an all-time regular season win–loss record of 2299 wins and 2387 losses (.489 winning percentage).
The Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors won the Western Conference Finals last night, defeating the Houston Rockets in Game 7. The Warriors will now advance to the NBA Finals, where they will face either the Milwaukee Bucks or the Toronto Raptors.
It was a close game throughout, with neither team leading by more than seven points. In the end, it was the Warriors’ experience that proved to be the difference, as they were able to make big shots when they needed them most. Stephen Curry led the way for Golden State, scoring 31 points on 11-of-22 shooting, including 6-of-14 from three-point range.
The Warriors will now have a chance to win their third straight NBA title and fourth in five years. They will be heavy favorites against either the Bucks or Raptors, but it should be a great series nonetheless.
