New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston. The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium.
An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL–NFL merger. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002 season. The Patriots’ rivalry with the New York Jets is considered one of the most bitter rivalries in the NFL.
The team has appeared in ten Super Bowls winning six of them, appearing in more Super Bowls than any other team; this includes their victory in Super Bowl LI when they defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34–28 after trailing 28–3 at halftime, marking not only their biggest comeback win but also the biggest comeback for any player or team in a Super Bowl period. With their six Super Bowl wins, they have tied with Pittsburgh forwon most by a franchise ever and also have tied San Francisco for second place behind Green Bay’s thirteen titles. They own two NFL championship titles prior to that, while their first three AFL championship game appearances resulted in two losses and one win respectively..
San Francisco 49ers
In a back-and-forth battle that featured five lead changes, the San Francisco 49ers (10-1) held on to defeat the Seattle Seahawks (9-2), 27-24, on Monday night. The Seahawks had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but a 49ers goal-line stand preserved the victory.
The win was San Francisco’s 10th in a row, extending their franchise record. The Niners also became the first team in NFL history to win 10 consecutive games by eight points or less. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo continued his stellar play, completing 21 of 31 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
The Seahawks got strong performances from their own quarterback, Russell Wilson, and running back Chris Carson. Wilson threw for 237 yards and two scores, while Carson rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown. Despite the loss, Seattle remains in first place in the NFC West thanks to their head-to-head tiebreaker over San Francisco.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.
The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced his plans to relocate the franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between Modell, the city of Cleveland, and the other NFL owners, Modell was required to leave the Browns’ history and records in Cleveland for a replacement team and replacement personnel that would take control in 1999. In return, he was allowed to take his own personnel and team to Baltimore, where such personnel would then form an expansion team. The Ravens have qualified for the NFL playoffs 11 times since 2000, with two Super Bowl victories (Super Bowl XXXV and Super Bowl XLVII), two AFC Championship appearances (2000 and 2012), 15 playoff victories (9th all-time), four AFC North division titles (2003, 2006, 2011, 2012), five seasons with at least 10 wins (2003–2007), and are currently tied with the 49ers for having existed for less than two decades and yet already having won multiple Super Bowls.
