Who Won The NFL Man Of The Year?

The NFL Man of the Year is an annual award given to a player who exhibits outstanding character and leadership on and off the field. This year’s winner is Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants.

Introduction

The annual National Football League Man of the Year Award recognizes an NFL player “who best demonstrates the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, and community service.” It was established in 1970. The inaugural winner of the award was Miami Dolphins running back Larry Csonka. Winners receive a trophy and $25,000 to donate to a charity of their choice.

J.J. Watt

In a close vote, J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans was named the 2017 Man of the Year. The award recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field.

Watt, who has played eight seasons with the Texans, is known for his work in helping to rebuild Houston after Hurricane Harvey. He started a fundraising campaign that raised more than $37 million for relief efforts.

Watt was nominated for the award by his own team. He beat out two other finalists, Chris Long of the Philadelphia Eagles and Eli Manning of the New York Giants.

Drew Brees

In 2018, the NFL renamed its charity award the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, in honor of the late Hall of Fame Chicago Bears running back. The award recognizes an NFL player for his excellence on and off the field.

The 32 team nominees are announced in November, and each team nominates one player who has had a significant positive impact on his community. From these 32 nominees, three finalists are announced in December. The winner is announced at NFL Honors, a two-hour primetime awards special to air on FOX on the eve of Super Bowl LIII.

This year’s finalists were Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Cory Littleton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

And the winner is…Drew Brees!

Calais Campbell

Calais Campbell is an American football defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Miami, and was drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Campbell has been selected to four Pro Bowls. In 2013, he was named NFL Man of the Year, becoming the first defensive player to win the award since its inception in 1970.

Conclusion

It is difficult to single out one player as the Man of the Year because there are so many who do great work off the field. In recent years, players like Drew Brees, J.J. Watt and Chris Long have been nominated for their work in the community. This year, however, there is one player who stands out above the rest: Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier.

Shazier was nominated for the award because of his work with the Spinal Cord Injury Research Foundation. Since suffering a spinal cord injury during a game in 2017, Shazier has been an advocate for others with similar injuries. He has worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for research into treatments and cures for spinal cord injuries.

Shazier’s efforts have made a difference in the lives of many people living with spinal cord injuries. He is a deserving recipient of the NFL Man of the Year award and an inspiration to us all.
