The WWE Royal Rumble is a professional wrestling event produced every year by WWE, a Connecticut–based professional wrestling promotion company. The event is a direct continuation of the earlier tradition started by the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), which held the first ever Royal Rumble in 1988. The winner of the Rumble match is traditionally given a world championship match at WrestleMania, WWE’s flagship pay-per-view event.

The event

In early 2022, the WWE Royal Rumble will return to pay-per-view (PPV) and the WWE Network. The event, which is one of WWE’s “Big Four” PPVs, is set to take place on January 29th at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. This will be the first time since 2018 that the event will be held in January, as it was moved to February in 2019 due to the Saudi Arabia Crown Jewel event.

This will also be the first time since the 2017 Royal Rumble that the event will not be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The last time the event was held in Boston was in 2004. The winner of the men’s Royal Rumble match will get a WrestleMania 37 world championship match of their choice. The women’s Royal Rumble winner will also receive a world championship match at WrestleMania 37.

The thirty-first annual WWE Royal Rumble took place on January 29, 2022, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. This was the first time the event took place in Houston. The stadium’s retractable roof was closed for the event.

Brock Lesnar won the men’s Royal Rumble match after last eliminating Braun Strowman. In the women’s Royal Rumble match, Natalya won by last eliminating Ronda Rousey.
