Who’s In The Playoffs In The NFL?

Wondering which NFL teams are in the playoffs this year? Check out our blog post to find out!

AFC

The AFC Playoffs are set and there are some great match-ups. In the AFC Wild Card Round, the Indianapolis Colts will take on the Houston Texans. The Colts are led by Andrew Luck, one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. The Texans are led by J.J. Watt, one of the best defensive players in the NFL. This should be a great game.

Baltimore Ravens

Under first-year head coach John Harbaugh, the team improved to an 11–5 record in 2008, and won their first AFC North title since 2003. They defeated the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round before losing to the eventual AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers in the Divisional Round. In 2010, they did not improve upon their previous season’s output by winning only 10 games. In Week 15 of that year, with a 34–14 loss to the San Diego Chargers on December 18, the Ravens became the first team ever to lose four consecutive games at home by at least 14 points each; in their final home game ten days later against Cleveland, they improved upon this ignominious record by losing 20–10 (thus making their overall record at home that season 5–3). Despite this improvement they failed to make the playoffs for a second straight year. The Ravens’ streak of five consecutive playoff appearances was snapped as well. They also became only one of six reigning division champions to miss the playoffs following a Super Bowl appearance (joining Denver [1985], Green Bay [1999], St. Louis [2001], Carolina [2004] and Seattle [2015]).

Buffalo Bills

As the AFC’s fifth seed, the Buffalo Bills will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Wild Card game on Sunday, January 7th at 1:05 p.m. EST. The Bills are coming off of a season in which they went 9-7, while the Jaguars finished 10-6. This will be the first meeting between these two teams this season.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium in Houston; its headquarters and training facility are at The Methodist Training Center in Houston.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. They were founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans, an expansion team of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the merger in 1970. The team is valued at over $2 billion.

New England Patriots

Are the New England Patriots going to make the playoffs?

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots have appeared in the Super Bowl ten times in franchise history, winning six of them. The Patriots have had some success in recent years, winning three of the last five Super Bowls. However, they failed to make the playoffs last year and are currently struggling this season with a 4-6 record.

only four teams in the AFC have better records than the Patriots. Additionally, there are three teams that are tied with the Patriots at 4-6. Therefore, the Patriots currently occupy the seventh seed in the AFC playoff picture.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC.

In contrast with their status as perennial also-rans in the pre-merger NFL, where they were the oldest team never to win a league championship, the Steelers of the merged league won their first of six AFC titles in 1974. Since then, they have played in more conference championship games than any other team, and have accumulated more appearances in the AFC Championship Game (15) and Super Bowls (8), than any other AFC team. The Steelers have won 8 AFC championships, tied with the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots, behind only the Oakland Raiders’ 11.

NFC

The National Football Conference (NFC) playoff picture heading into Week 17 is murky. The Seattle Seahawks have clinched the conference’s top seed, but they could still end up anywhere from the No. 1 to the No. 5 spot. The Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals are also in the mix for a first-round bye.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team in the National Football League (NFL). The Cowboys compete in the NFC East division of the NFL. They are one of two NFL teams based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, the other being the Houston Texans. The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive home sell-outs. The Cowboys’ streak began in 2002, and included 160 straight sold-out regular and post-season games before it came to an end at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with a loss to the Indianapolis Colts during the 2019 season.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.

The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1924 and earlier. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan, before joining the American Professional Football Association (APFA), now known as the NFL, in 1921. Although Green Bay is by far the smallest major league professional sports market in North America, Forbes ranked the Packers as the world’s 26th most valuable sports franchise in 2016, with a value of $2.35 billion.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to St. Louis. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016.

The Rams have won three NFL championships, and are the only team to win championships representing three cities (Cleveland in 1945, Los Angeles in 1951, and St. Louis in 1999). They have been to ten NFL Championship games, winning seven of them (Pre-Merger/AFL-NFL Championship games: 1945, 1946, 1949, 1951, 1955; NFC Championship games: 1974, 2018; Super Bowls: XXXIV (1999), LIII (2018)). The Rams have ten playoff appearances since their return to Los Angeles (2017-present), including five divisional playoff game victories (2017-present), one conference championship appearance (2018), and Super Bowl LIII victory (2018).

New Orleans Saints

The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The Saints were established in 1967 as an expansion team and first took the field for the 1968 NFL season

San Francisco 49ers
