Who’s Making the NFL Playoffs?

It’s that time of year again! The NFL regular season is coming to a close and we’re left wondering who’s making the playoffs.

The Contenders

The NFL season is winding down and there are only a few weeks left of regular season football. So, who’s in the running to make the playoffs? Let’s take a look at the contenders.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of the 2002 season. The Patriots’ rivalry with the New York Jets is considered one of the most bitter rivalries in all of professional sports.

The Patriots have appeared in the Super Bowl ten times in franchise history, including nine times since 1997, and won seven of them, most recently Super Bowl LIII in February 2019. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for having more Super Bowl wins than any other franchise (tied for sixth all-time), and hold both the record for most Super Bowl appearances overall (eleven) and for most consecutive appearances (ten). As of June 2019, Brady has led them to more division titles (16) than any other quarterback in NFL history.[1][2][3]

Pittsburgh Steelers

This team has the potential to go all the way. With an experienced and battle-tested defense, they have what it takes to win the big game. Additionally, their recent string of offenses have shown that they can put up points against anyone.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League (AFL) before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to Anaheim. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016.

The Rams organization has won three NFL championships, and is the only one to win championships representing three cities (Cleveland in 1945, Los Angeles in 1951, and St. Louis in 1999). The Rams have been NFC West division champions 14 times, first winning it in 1974 and again every year since 2017. The club has played their home games at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since their 1948 move to Southern California, except for their final season at Anaheim Stadium in 1994 and their home games during construction of L.A.’s new stadium complex at Hollywood Park from 2020 onward.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team is valued at over $2 billion.

The Pretenders

There are a lot of teams in the NFL that think they have a chance to make the playoffs, but there are only a few that are actually pretenders. The pretenders are the teams that are barely hanging on to their playoff hopes, but they are not good enough to actually make it. These teams are usually the ones that are just good enough to make it to the wild card round, but they will not make it any further than that.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They are members of the North Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocate his franchise to Baltimore.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference South division. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium, an outdoor stadium designed to resemble Astrodome, the first retractable domed stadium in the world. The franchise was founded in 2002 as the Houston Texans expansion team after then-owner Bob McNair’s previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, relocate to Nashville to become the Tennessee Titans.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference East division. They are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NFL, having won eight Divisional titles, six Conference championships, and 20 Playoff appearances.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are a professional American football franchise based in Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s NFC West division. They joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Seahawks are owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and are currently coached by Pete Carroll. Since 2002, the Seahawks have played their home games at CenturyLink Field, located south of downtown Seattle. They previously played home games in the Kingdome (1976–1999) and Husky Stadium (1994, 2000–2001).

The Longshots

The NFL playoffs are always full of surprises, and this year is no different. Who would have thought that the Los Angeles Rams would be in the Super Bowl? Or that the New Orleans Saints would be left out of the playoffs entirely? These teams are proof that anything can happen in the NFL. Let’s take a look at some other longshots that could make a run in the playoffs.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are a professional American football team based in Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the National Football League (NFL) as a part of the NFC North division. The Bears compete in the NFL as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The Bears have won nine NFL Championships, including one Super Bowl, and hold the NFL record for the most enshrinees in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the most retired jersey numbers. They have also recorded more victories than any other NFL franchise.

Philadelphia Eagles

as the NFC East champions. They clinched the division title with a Week 16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, and can clinch a first-round bye with either a win or a tie in Week 17 against the Washington Redskins. The Eagles are led by quarterback Carson Wentz, who is in his second season in the NFL.

Indianapolis Colts

There are a few reasons to believe in the Colts as a playoff team. First and foremost is that they have the best quarterback in the AFC South in Andrew Luck. He’s coming off one of his best seasons as a pro, and with a full complement of weapons at his disposal, he should be in for another big year. The Colts also have a very strong offensive line, which will give Luck plenty of time to throw.

On defense, the Colts have a solid front seven that should be able to apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks. They also have some playmakers in the secondary, including safety Malik Hooker, who had a very strong rookie season.

If everything comes together, the Colts could be a surprise team in the AFC and make a run at the playoffs.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are making a serious run at the playoffs. They are currently second in the AFC West with a 9-3 record, behind the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers have a very good chance of making the playoffs as a wild card team.

The Chargers have a very balanced team. They have a good offense, led by quarterback Philip Rivers, and a good defense. The Chargers also have a very good head coach in Anthony Lynn.

The Chargers are currently on a four-game winning streak. They have beaten some good teams during that streak, including the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Chargers have a very tough remaining schedule. They will play the Chiefs twice, as well as the Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos. If they can win three of those four games, they will almost certainly make the playoffs.
