Auston Matthews
Auston Matthews is an American professional ice hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on September 17, 1997, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Matthews grew up playing hockey in various youth leagues in the Phoenix area. He later moved to Michigan to play junior hockey for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) before being selected first overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
In his first season with the Maple Leafs, Matthews set several NHL rookie records and was named as a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year. He has since been named to two NHL All-Star Games and was awarded the Ted Lindsay Award as Most Outstanding Player in 2019. Internationally, Matthews has represented the United States on several occasions, winning gold medals at the World Championships in 2017 and 2019.
