The Clippers were founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, one of three expansion teams to join the NBA that year. The Braves moved from Buffalo, New York to San Diego, California in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers until 1984, when they moved to Los Angeles. Through much of its history, the franchise failed to see significant regular season or playoff success. In 2012, however, the franchise won its first division title after 38 years since moving to Los Angeles. They repeated as division champions in 2013-14 and 2015-16. Between 2008 and 2017, including eight seasons where they qualified for the playoffs but did not advance beyond the first round of postseason play, the team recorded only three winning seasons; this drought was finally ended by a 49–23 (.681) campaign which resulted in their qualifying for and advancing beyond their first ever playoff series victory against the Memphis Grizzlies and into their first ever conference semifinals appearance since 2006 under new head coach Doc Rivers.

Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in Oakland, California. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and took the city’s name, before changing its geographic moniker to Golden State in 1971. They play their home games at the Chase Center.

Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings are an American professional basketball team based in Sacramento, California. The Kings compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Conference’s Pacific Division. The Kings are the only team in the major professional North American sports leagues located in Sacramento.

The team played its home games at ARCO Arena from 1985 to 2016. Starting with the 2016–17 season, the Kings moved to Golden 1 Center, a new arena located in downtown Sacramento.

The franchise began with the Rochester Royals, a National Basketball League (NBL) team that was formed in 1923 and moved to Rochester, New York following a dispute between owners and players. As a result of the move, they nicknamed themselves the Rochester Royals.[8] Their first game was against the Syracuse Nationals, who defeated them 106–12.[9] The Royals refused to travel to Syracuse for a second game and were fined $5,000 by the NBL.[10] During this early era of basketball one player stood out more than any other for his play; he was George Mikan who starred with his three-inch height advantage over all opponents[11]

In 1948, the Royals joined the Basketball Association of America (BAA), where they would remain until 1949 when they jumped ship along with three other NBL teams to form their own league which they called the National Basketball Association. In 1949, as a result of that merger, they became one of three teams (the others being Detroit and Indianapolis) that joined forces with owners from the BAA to form what is today known as NBA.

Kawhi Anthony Leonard is an American professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association. He played college basketball for one season with San Diego State University, and was named a consensus second-team All-American as a freshman. He was selected in the first round of the 2011 NBA draft with the 15th overall pick by the Indiana Pacers, who traded him to the San Antonio Spurs on draft night. Leonard won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 2014 and was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. He was also a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, winning in 2015 and 2016, becoming just the third player to win both awards multiple times. In 2017, he was named one of Time’s “100 Most Influential People.”

Steph Curry

On the court, Curry is one of the NBA’s most electrifying players. A sharpshooting point guard with unlimited range, Curry is a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and led the Golden State Warriors to an NBA championship in 2015. He has been selected to six All-Star teams, was named NBA Finals MVP in 2016 and is a three-time NBA All-Star Game MVP.

Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Andrew Irving is an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on March 23, 1992, in Melbourne, Australia, and grew up in West Orange, New Jersey. Kyrie Irving played college basketball for Duke University before being selected with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016 before being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2017. Kyrie Irving was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2012 and an NBA All-Star in 2014 and 2015. He has also been selected to play for the United States national team in FIBA World Cups and the Olympics.
