Who’s Still in the NFL Playoffs?

Wondering who’s still in the NFL playoffs? Here’s a quick update on the teams that are still fighting for a chance to make it to the Super Bowl.

The NFC

The National Football Conference (NFC) is the conference of the National Football League (NFL) in which its 16 teams compete. The NFC is considered to be the more competitive of the two conferences, and has produced more Super Bowl champions than the AFC since 1970. The current NFC champions are the Los Angeles Rams.

The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The team was founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966. The Saints began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967.

The Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to St. Louis. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016.

The Rams organization has won three NFL championships, and is the only one to win championships representing three different cities (Cleveland in 1945, Los Angeles in 1951, and St. Louis in 1999). The Rams have been colored NFC champions fourteen times (pre-merger), more than any other team in the conference.

The Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are a professional American football team based in Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL), and are one of two remaining charter members of that conference. The Bears have played in over a thousand games since becoming a charter member of the NFL in 1920, and hold numerous NFL records. They play their home games at Soldier Field, located on the city’s Lake Shore Drive near Lake Michigan. The Bears have a long-standing rivalry with the Green Bay Packers.

The Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. They are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NFL, having made eight Super Bowl appearances, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos for second most Super Bowl appearances, and behind only the New England Patriots’ record eleven Super Bowl appearances. The Cowboys have played in 29 playoff seasons, recording a 63–47 record .

The AFC

The AFC playoff race is down to the final week of the season and there are still four teams vying for the two wild-card spots. The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers are both 10-6, while the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers are both 9-6-1. Here’s a look at the AFC playoff picture heading into the final week of the season.

The New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Harvard Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium in 2002. The Patriots’ rivalry with the New York Jets is considered one of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL.

The Patriots have appeared in ten Super Bowls since they began play in 1960 as one of the AFL’s eight charter members, winning six of them – all under head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. With Brady as quarterback and Belichick as head coach, New England has compiled a regular season record of 33–4 and an outstanding playoff record of 26–10, winning more than 70 percent of their games together. They are also tied for first place for most Super Bowl appearances with nine and won more conference championships with thirteen than any other team since 2001. As of 2019, according to Forbes, they are valued at $3 billion, making them once again number-one on their annual list of most valuable sports franchises around
the world for an NFL team for a second consecutive year ahead of both Dallas Cowboys and Real Madrid.

The Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team moved to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the merger in 1970. The team is valued at over $2 billion.

The Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The Chargers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. They were founded on August 14, 1959, and began play on September 10, 1960, as charter members of the American Football League (AFL), and spent their first season in Los Angeles, before moving to San Diego in 1961.

The Baltimore Ravens

After a disappointing 2018 campaign that saw them finish with a record of 9-7, the Baltimore Ravens came into the 2019 season with something to prove. Led by reigning MVP Lamar Jackson, the Ravens made quick work of their opponents en route to a franchise-best 14-2 record. Thanks to their strong showing, Baltimore secured the #1 seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Their first test will come in the form of the Tennessee Titans, who are led by former Ravens quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Despite their up-and-down regular season, the Titans have been a force in the playoffs, upseting both the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens en route to their first AFC Championship Game appearance since 2002.

With both teams boasting strong defenses and explosive offenses, this game is sure to be a battle. The winner will go on to face either the Kansas City Chiefs or Houston Texans in the AFC Championship Game.
