Bill Belichick
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL–NFL merger. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002.
The Patriots’ rivalry with the New York Jets is considered one of the most bitter rivalries in the NFL. Since 2001, every regular season and playoff meeting between these two teams has been televised nationally in prime time on one network or another. This is due, in large part, to both teams’ success since 2001; since that time, they have combined for 11 Super Bowl appearances and eight Super Bowl championships, while no other AFC East team has made a Super Bowl appearance during that span.
Bill Belichick has been the head coach of the Patriots since 2000, after serving as an assistant coach with several NFL teams dating back to 1975. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest head coaches in NFL history, and has led the Patriots to more conference championships (9) than any other coach in NFL history, as well as to more division titles (16), and playoff appearances (27) than any other coach in AFC history. Belichick is also tied for first place among all head coaches with seven Super Bowl appearances—six with New England and one with the Cleveland Browns—and four wins (2001, 2003, 2004, and 2014), all with New England; he also currently holds multiple records for most playoff wins by a head coach and most Super Bowl wins by a head coach and by any player or staff member In 2007 he set a new record for getting fined over $1 million by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for his part in Spygate In addition to his on-field success The Washington Post says that “Belichick’s defenders point out that his players love playing for him” andcounts among those supporters Tom Brady who has called Belichick “the best coach ever”
Contract details
In 2015, Bill Belichick signed a five-year extension with the Patriots that is worth a total of $32 million. This made him the highest-paid coach in the NFL at the time. His base salary for the 2019 season is $12 million, with a signing bonus of $3 million. He also has annual incentives that could be worth up to $500,000.
Pete Carroll
Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll is the highest paid NFL coach, with an annual salary of $11 million. Carroll’s team has been one of the most successful in the NFL over the past few years, winning the Super Bowl in 2013 and reaching the playoffs in 2014 and 2015. Carroll’s success has translated into big pay days for him and his assistant coaches.
Seattle Seahawks
In 2010, the Seahawks hired Pete Carroll away from the University of Southern California. He became the highest paid coach in NFL history, earning an annual salary of $8 million. Carroll’s contract runs through the 2016 season.

Pete Carroll signed a contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks in 2019 that runs through the 2025 season. The extension is worth $11 million per year, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NFL.
Carroll’s original contract with the Seahawks was for four years and $32 million. He received a two-year extension in 2013 that increased his salary to $8 million per year. In 2019, he signed another extension that raised his salary to $11 million per year.
In addition to his base salary, Carroll also earns bonuses for winning divisional titles and making it to the playoffs. He has earned more than $3 million in bonuses over the course of his career with the Seahawks.
Jon Gruden
In 2018, Jon Gruden became the highest paid NFL coach with an annual salary of $10 million. He is also the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Gruden has a record of 100-85-1 in his 11 seasons as a head coach in the NFL.
Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders are a professional American football franchise based in Oakland, California. The Raiders compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. Founded on January 30, 1960, they began play on September 11, 1960, as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), winning one AFL championship before joining the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team plays its home games at the Oakland Coliseum.
The Raiders’ off-field fortunes have varied considerably over the years. The team’s first three years of operation (1960–1962) were marred by poor on-field results, financial difficulties, and spotty attendance. In 1963, however, Al Davis was hired as head coach and general manager; he changed the team’s name to “the Raiders”, partially because it rhymes with “the A’s”, another local professional sports franchise which belonged to baseball’s AL West at that time. After several years of improvement, the Raiders reached the postseason for the first time in 1967. The team would go on to win its first AFL Championship that year; it subsequently became apparent that it would not be possible for Davis to keep both his coaching job and position as general manager, so heinstead hired John Madden as his head coach while retaining control of personnel decisions; Madden led them to victory in Super Bowl XI that year. Since then, they have won 15 division titles (three AFL and 12 NFL), four AFC Championships (1976, 1980, 1983 watermark), one AFL Championship (1967), and three Super Bowls (XI 1976 watermark , XV watermark , XVIII 1983 watermark ). At present stadium issues are continuing to threaten their long-term stay in Oakland; they have already filed paperwork indicating their intention to relocate elsewhere for 2019 if things do not improve by then.
Contract details
In January 2018, the Oakland Raiders announced they had hired Jon Gruden as their head coach. His contract is reportedly worth $100 million over 10 years, making him the highest-paid coach in NFL history.
What’s included in that record-setting contract? According to reports, the deal is fully guaranteed, which is rare for an NFL coach. Gruden will reportedly make $10 million per year in base salary, plus a $3 million signing bonus and annual incentives that could total as much as $5 million per year. In total, he could make as much as $13 million per year.
The contract also includes some unique provisions, such as a clause that allows Gruden to opt out of the deal after 2019 if the team is sold. He also has a no-trade clause, meaning he can’t be fired without cause.
So far, Gruden’s coaching tenure with the Raiders has been mixed. The team started the 2018 season with high hopes but struggled through a 4-12 campaign. They rebounded in 2019, going 7-9 and just missing out on a playoff berth.
Sean McVay
In 2017, Sean McVay became the youngest head coach in NFL history when he was hired by the Los Angeles Rams. He was just 30 years old at the time. Since then, he has led the Rams to two straight NFC West titles and has been named NFL Coach of the Year twice. In 2020, he signed a five-year extension with the Rams that made him the highest-paid coach in NFL history.
Los Angeles Rams
As of 2019, Sean McVay is the youngest head coach in the NFL, and he currently ranks as the highest paid coach in the league. McVay took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. In his first season, he led the team to an NFC West division title and was named NFL Coach of the Year. The Rams then went on to reach the Super Bowl in 2018, where they lost to the New England Patriots.
Contract details
Per a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Rams and McVay have agreed to a five-year contract extension that will keep the young coach in Los Angeles through the 2023 season.
The Rams’ decision to lock up McVay comes as no surprise. In just two seasons, he has transformed the franchise from a 4-12 also-ran into a 14-3 Super Bowl contender. He was named the AP Coach of the Year in 2017 after leading the Rams to an NFC West title and was a finalist for the award this season after L.A. won 13 games and earned a first-round bye.
Dan Quinn
Dan Quinn is the current head coach of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. He was born on November 21, 1970, in Morristown, New Jersey. Quinn has been the Falcons head coach since 2015. In that time, he has led the team to a Super Bowl appearance and has a career record of 43-42.
