Who’s the NFL MVP?
Contents
The National Football League MVP award is given to the most outstanding player of the year. This year, there are several strong candidates for the title, but only one can take home the coveted trophy. Who do you think is the most deserving candidate?
Cam Newton
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2015. He led his team to a 15-1 record and threw for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also ran for an NFL-best 10 touchdowns.
His stats
In his first seven NFL seasons, Cam Newton has amassed a total of 29,041 passing yards, 182 passing touchdowns, and 108 interceptions. He has also rushed for 5,512 yards and 58 touchdowns.
His team’s success
Though some may argue that Cam Newton’s success is more a team effort than an individual one, there is no doubt that he is a major driving force behind the Carolina Panthers’ 2015 season. With a record of 15-1, they are the number one seed in the NFC and have already clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs. Even more impressively, they have done all of this without their number one wide receiver, Kelvin Benjamin, who tore his ACL in training camp.
Newton himself has had an incredible season, throwing for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns while also rushing for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week five times and was just named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for December. He is a front-runner for the NFL MVP award and has already been named AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year. Not bad for a player in just his fifth season in the league.
Tom Brady
It’s Tom Brady’s world, we’re all just living in it. The 42-year-old quarterback is playing some of the best football of his career and is a big reason why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the best teams in the NFL. Let’s take a look at why Brady is the runaway favorite to win MVP this season.
His stats
This season, Brady has thrown for 4,355 yards (most in NFL), 33 touchdowns (tied for third most) and just eight interceptions. His completion percentage of 65.8 is his career norm. Brady’s passer rating of 102.2 is the third highest of his career, and he’s on pace to throw for more than 30 touchdowns for the sixth time.
His team’s success
The New England Patriots have been one of the most successful teams in the NFL over the past decade and a half, thanks in large part to their superstar quarterback, Tom Brady. Brady has been a big part of the team’s success, winning five Super Bowls and being named the MVP of four of those games. He is also a two-time league MVP and has been selected to 14 Pro Bowls.
Aaron Rodgers
The favorite for this year’s NFL MVP is probably Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers. He’s had an incredible season, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns. His team has also been one of the best in the league, and he’s been a big part of that. Rodgers is a deserving favorite, but there are a few other players who could make a case for the award.
His stats
In his 16 NFL seasons, Rodgers has completed 3,890 of 5,917 passes for 52,38 yards (2nd all time),441 TDs (4th all time), and 103 INTs, for a 103.1 passer rating (1st all time). He has also rushed for 3,160 yards and 30 TDs. He holds the NFL regular season career record for highest passer rating at 103.1.
His team’s success
The Green Bay Packers have been one of the most successful teams in the NFL over the past few years, and a big part of that has been due to the play of their star quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is a two-time NFL MVP and has led the Packers to a Super Bowl title. He is considered by many to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and his play has been a big reason why the Packers have been so successful.
