Who’s the Oldest NBA Player Right Now?
We all know that NBA players are some of the fittest athletes in the world. But have you ever wondered who the oldest player in the league is? We did some digging and found out that the oldest player in the NBA right now is Vince Carter, who is 42 years old.
Kobe Bryant
Kobe Bean Bryant (/ˈkoʊbiː/ KOH-bee; born August 23, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. He played his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He entered the NBA directly from high school and won five NBA championships with the Lakers. Bryant is an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team. He led the NBA in scoring during two seasons and ranks third on both the league’s all-time regular season scoring and all-time postseason scoring lists.
Bryant is considered one of the greatest players of all time. A shooting guard, he spent his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He entered this world as Kobe Bean Bryant on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The young baller grew up idolizing Michael Jordan and even chose to wear the number 24 in honor of his hero’s jersey number with the Chicago Bulls (23 was already taken when he joined his high school team).
Tim Duncan
At 40 years old, San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan is not only the oldest player in the NBA, but he’s also still one of the best. In fact, Duncan is coming off yet another stellar season in which he averaged 13.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
What’s even more impressive is that Duncan is playing some of the best basketball of his life despite the fact that he’s nearly twice as old as some of his opponents. In fact, when Duncan first entered the league back in 1997, there were only four current NBA players who were born before him.
One of those players is Kobe Bryant, who retired last year after 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Another is Vince Carter, who just finished his 22nd season with the Atlanta Hawks. And then there are two players who are still going strong at age 38: Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks and Pau Gasol of the Spurs.
Of course, while Duncan may be older than all of his fellow NBA players, he’s still several years younger than some of the league’s coaches. For example, John Stockton (60) and Karl Malone (57) – two members of Duncan’s 1997 draft class – are currently assistant coaches for the Utah Jazz. Meanwhile, San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich – who has coached Duncan throughout his entire career – is 70 years old.
Vince Carter
At 42 years old, Vince Carter is currently the oldest player in the NBA. He’s played for 22 seasons, and while he’s no longer the high-flying dunker he once was, he’s still a valuable role player for the Atlanta Hawks.
Dirk Nowitzki
Dirk Nowitzki, the oldest player in the NBA, is a 21-year veteran who has spent his entire career with the Dallas Mavericks. He was born on June 19, 1978, in Wurzburg, Germany, and is now 40 years old. Nowitzki was drafted by the Mavericks with the ninth overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, and he has been with the team ever since. He is a 14-time All-Star and was named the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2007. Nowitzki is also the Mavericks’ all-time leading scorer, and he ranks sixth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
Manu Ginobili
At 42 years old, San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili is the oldest player in the NBA.
Ginobili is a four-time NBA champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and one-time EuroLeague MVP. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2018.
Pau Gasol
Pau Gasol is the oldest player in the NBA right now. He is 38 years old and was born on July 6, 1980.
Jason Terry
Jason Terry, though not currently on an NBA roster, is the oldest NBA player right now. He is 41 years old, having been born on September 15, 1977. Terry last played for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2017-18 season.
