Why Are WWE Superstars Going to AEW?

WWE superstars are making the move to AEW, and there are a few reasons why. Check out this blog post to learn more about why wrestlers are making the switch.

The McMahon Family

In 2019, WWE superstars Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks left WWE to join the newly-formed wrestling company All Elite Wrestling (AEW). This was a huge blow to WWE, as these were some of their biggest stars. So, why did they leave? The answer lies with the McMahon family.

Vince McMahon Sr.

Vincent James McMahon Sr. (July 6, 1914 – May 24, 1984) was an American professional wrestling promoter and executive, actor, and former commentator. He founded WWE in 1952 as Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC). McMahon was also the founder of the American Football League (AFL).

Vince McMahon Jr.

NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley took to Twitter to voice her excitement for the upcoming women’s Royal Rumble, which will feature superstars from all WWE brands.

“I can’t wait to see who shows up in the #RoyalRumble,” Ripley wrote. “Maybe we’ll get some surprise entrants from @AEWrestling.”

While it is unlikely that any AEW wrestlers will appear in the rumble, Ripley’s tweet got us thinking about which McMahon would be more likely to jump ship to AEW: Stephanie McMahon or Vince McMahon Jr.?

The WWE Universe

The past few months have seen a mass exodus of top WWE Superstars to rival promotion All Elite Wrestling. While this may be seen as a bad thing by WWE and its fans, it’s actually a good thing for the business. The WWE Universe is always looking for something new and fresh, and AEW is providing that.

The Attitude Era

The Attitude Era was a highly successful period in WWE’s history, defined by its edgy and controversial programming. This content was largely responsible for WWE’s surge in popularity during the late 1990s, culminating in Vince McMahon’s company surpassing Ted Turner’s WCW to become the most watched wrestling promotion in the world.

However, by the early 2000s, WWE’s Attitude Era had come to an end. The company instituted a more family-friendly PG rating, which caused many of its top stars to leave for greener pastures. In recent years, WWE has struggled to recapture the magic of the Attitude Era, leading many to speculate that the company is doomed to fail.

One of the biggest reasons why WWE has been struggling is because its top stars have been leaving for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). AEW is a new wrestling promotion founded by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson). Rhodes is a former WWE superstar who was frustrated with his position in the company, leading him to leave and start his own thing.

The Young Bucks are also former WWE superstars who left due to creative differences. They have been extremely successful outside of WWE, becoming two of the hottest commodities in professional wrestling. Their signatures are “superkick parties,” where they deliver numerous superkicks to their opponents.

AEW has managed to sign some of WWE’s top talent, including Chris Jericho, PAC (formerly Neville), Jon Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose), and Kenny Omega. Jericho is one of the most decorated wrestlers in history, and his signing was seen as a huge coup for AEW. PAC is a former Cruiserweight Champion who was wrongly used during his time in WWE. Moxley is a former World Heavyweight Champion who was never given a fair chance in WWE. Omega is one of the best wrestlers in the world and is coming off of a successful run in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).

AEW represents a viable alternative for wrestlers who are unhappy with their position in WWE. If AEW continues to poach top talent from WWE, it could eventually surpass Vince McMahon’s company as the most popular wrestling promotion in the world.

The Ruthless Aggression Era

In the early 2000s, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) was enmeshed in the “Monday Night Wars” against Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling (WCW). The WWF eventually regained the upper hand, and by 2001 it had acquired WCW. The Ruthless Aggression Era began soon after, marked by a more serious, wrestling-oriented presentation that abandoned the cartoonish characters and storylines of the Attitude Era.

The PG Era

The PG Era is the current era in WWE. It began in 2008 and is still ongoing. This era is characterized by a more family-friendly product, with less cursing and fewer risky moves. Many long-time fans have noted that the product has become less exciting as a result.

AEW

The young upstart All Elite Wrestling promotion has been making waves as of late in the world of professional wrestling. One of the main reasons for this is due to the fact that they have been signing some of the top WWE superstars. Let’s take a look at why some of these superstars have decided to leave WWE for AEW.

The Young Bucks

The Young Bucks are an American professional wrestling tag team, consisting of brothers Matt and Nick Jackson. They are currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where they are the inaugural and current AEW World Tag Team Champions in their first reign. They are also former one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and three-time ROH World Tag Team Champions. They are also known for their work in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where they are former three-time IWGP Tag Team Champions as well as former Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. In addition, they have won numerous tag team championships on the independent circuit.

Cody Rhodes

WWE superstar and Executive Vice President of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Cody Rhodes recently spoke with Forbes about why he and other WWE superstars are making the jump to AEW.

Rhodes, who is also the son of WWE legend Dusty Rhodes, said that the main reason wrestlers are leaving WWE is because they are “tired of being disrespected.”

“People are tired of being disrespected,” Rhodes told Forbes. “They’re tired of being asked to do things that they don’t want to do. They’re tired of being unsafe in the workplace. They’re tired of being belittled.”

Rhodes also said that AEW will be a more “wrestler-friendly” company than WWE, noting that wrestlers will have more input on their characters and storylines.

“AEW is going to be a much more wrestler-friendly environment,” Rhodes said. “We want our wrestlers to be able to come to us with ideas for their characters, for storylines, for matches.”

“We want to make sure that they’re happy, that they’re healthy, and that they feel like they’re a part of something special,” he added.

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho, one of WWE’s most popular wrestlers, is the latest to sign with All Elite Wrestling.

Jericho made the announcement on Twitter, saying he’s “going to change the world” with AEW.

It’s a big get for AEW, which is set to launch its television show on TNT in October. Jericho is a six-time world champion and has been with WWE for almost 20 years.

While Jericho didn’t give specifics about his deal with AEW, it’s likely that he will be a big part of the promotion’s plans.

The Future of WWE

WWE has been facing a lot of criticism lately. Fans are tired of the same old things happening in WWE. Superstars are getting fed up with WWE’s creative direction. All of this has led to some WWE superstars leaving for AEW.

Roman Reigns

On October 22, 2019, less than a year after returning from his second battle with leukemia, WWE superstar Roman Reigns announced that he was once again stepping away from in-ring action to focus on his health. The news sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling world, as Reigns is not only one of WWE’s biggest stars, but also the company’s top babyface (good guy).

While the 34-year-old has yet to officially retire, all indications are that he has wrestled his last match. If that is indeed the case, Reigns will go down as one of the greatest superstars in WWE history. But his untimely departure has also left many fans wondering what the future of WWE will look like without him.

The answer to that question may lie with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a new promotion founded by billionaire Tony Khan. AEW has already signed several high-profile wrestlers who have left WWE in recent years, including Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, and Cody Rhodes (son of the late “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes).

There is speculation that AEW could be a threat to WWE’s monopoly on professional wrestling. But even if AEW fails to live up to its hype, Roman Reigns’ departure from WWE will still have a major impact on the company.

Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar is an incredibly popular WWE Superstar, and his recent loss to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35 has led to speculation that he may be on his way out of the company. Lesnar has been with WWE since 2002, but his contract is up soon and he is reportedly considering a move to All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

There are several reasons why Lesnar may be interested in AEW. First, AEW is a new company with a lot of potential. It has already signed some big names, including Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega, and it is quickly gaining popularity. Second, AEW is not as strictly scripted as WWE, which could give Lesnar more freedom to be himself. Finally, AEW offers higher payouts than WWE, which could be a factor in Lesnar’s decision.

Whatever the reason, Lesnar’s potential move to AEW is sure to shake up the professional wrestling world. It will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming months.

Ronda Rousey

WWE has seen a lot of superstars leave for AEW over the past few years. Some have cited creative differences, while others have simply said that they want to try something new. Ronda Rousey is one of the latest WWE superstars to leave, and she has spoken out about why she decided to join AEW.

Rousey explained that she was not motivated by money or contracts when she made the switch. Instead, she was drawn to AEW because of the creative freedom that the company offers its wrestlers. She also likes that AEW is willing to take risks and try new things, something that WWE has been reluctant to do in recent years.

It remains to be seen how successful Rousey will be in AEW. However, her comments indicate that she is extremely passionate about professional wrestling and is willing to put in the work to make AEW a success. Given her track record in UFC, it is likely that she will be a major force in the company for years to come.
