WWE Network’s Peacock Deal
In January 2021, it was announced that the WWE Network would be moving to Peacock, a streaming service owned by NBCUniversal. This was a surprising move, as the WWE Network had been a standalone service since it launched in 2014. So, why did the WWE Network go to Peacock? Let’s take a look.
Announced in January 2021
In January 2021, it was announced that the WWE Network would be moving to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, in the United States. The WWE Network will continue to operate as a standalone service in other countries.
The move is part of a wider deal between the WWE and NBCUniversal that will see Peacock become the exclusive home of WWE programming in the US. This includes all live pay-per-view events, as well as on-demand content and originals.
Peacock will be the exclusive home of WWE Network in the U.S.
In a multi-year deal, Peacock will become the exclusive home of WWE Network in the U.S., starting with a free version later this year.
WWE Network is currently available in over 180 countries and territories, with over 1.1 million subscribers. The service will continue to be available globally, outside of the U.S.
“As WWE continues to redefine our brand and expand our reach around the world, this new partnership with Peacock will deliver our flagship programming, including Raw, SmackDown and NXT, to a new generation of fans,” said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman & CEO. “Peacock is an innovative platform that will enable us to dramatically expand WWE Network’s reach in the U.S., bringing our flagship shows and prestigious library of content to a new wave of fans.”
Starting this week, all users in the U.S. will be automatically redirected from WWE Network to Peacock at www.peacocktv.com/wwe-network. New users can sign up for Peacock today at peacocktv.com/wrestlemania to receive a free trial through April 5.
WWE Network will continue to operate globally
It was recently announced that the WWE Network will be moving to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, in the United States. This transition will take place on March 18, 2020. The WWE Network will continue to operate globally with its current pricing and content offering.
The move to Peacock will provide WWE Network subscribers in the United States with significant benefits, including:
-A larger collection of on-demand content, including all WWE pay-per-view events dating back to 1987
-Exclusive original programming, such as Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions and The Mae Young Classic
-Streaming of live sporting events, including WWE’s flagship programs Raw and SmackDown
-A free ad-supported tier with more than 15,000 hours of content for new and casual fans
Why Did the WWE Network Go to Peacock?
The WWE Network originally launched in February 2014 as a streaming service. It was available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and various other countries. In November 2014, the WWE Network became available in the UK and Ireland. The WWE Network is a subscription-based service that gives users access to live and on-demand WWE programming. It includes all live pay-per-view events, original shows, and a library of on-demand content.
Reach a wider audience
In January 2020, it was announced that the WWE Network would be moving to NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock. The deal is said to be worth more than $1 billion, and it’s a sign that the WWE is looking to reach a wider audience.
The WWE Network launched in 2014 and it was a groundbreaking service at the time. It offered fans a monthly subscription that allowed them to watch live events, original programming, and on-demand content. It was an instant success, and the company has been able to grow the service in the years since.
However, with the launch of new streaming services like Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock, the WWE decided it was time to make a change. NBCUniversal is one of the biggest media companies in the world, and by moving to Peacock, the WWE will have access to a much larger potential audience. In addition, NBCUniversal is also an investor in the WWE, so this move makes financial sense for both parties.
It’s not clear yet how exactly the WWE Network will change now that it’s on Peacock. It’s possible that there will be more original programming or that some of the existing content will be exclusive to Peacock subscribers. However, one thing is for sure – this is a big move for both the WWE and NBCUniversal, and it will be interesting to see how it affects the streaming landscape going forward.
More revenue opportunities
One of the biggest reasons that WWE decided to move the WWE Network over to Peacock is because of the potential for more revenue opportunities. With a larger platform like NBCUniversal, WWE will now have access to a wider range of advertisers that could be interested in sponsoring their content. In addition, NBCUniversal will also be able to sell ads on behalf of WWE, which could generate a significant amount of additional revenue for the company.
Better technology platform
Peacock is a streaming service that is part of NBCUniversal. NBCUniversal is owned by Comcast. The WWE Network was originally launched in 2014 as a standalone streaming service. In 2019, it became a part of NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, Peacock.
The WWE Network offers on-demand and live programming, including original series, specials, documentaries, classic matches, and pay-per-view events. It is available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, the Middle East, and some Latin American countries.
There are several reasons why the WWE Network moved to Peacock. One reason is that Peacock has a better technology platform. The WWE Network experienced technical difficulties when it launched in 2014. These difficulties were due to the fact that the WWE Network was using a platform that was not designed for streaming video. Moving to Peacock will allow the WWE Network to take advantage of Peacock’s technology infrastructure and improve the user experience.
Another reason for the move is that it will give the WWE Network access to a larger potential customer base. Peacock has over 30 million subscribers in the United States. This is compared to the 6 million subscribers that the WWE Network had as a standalone service.
In addition, moving to Peacock will allow the WWE Network to be bundled with other NBCUniversal content. This will make it more attractive to potential customers and increase the chances that people will subscribe to the service.
