Chad is a former NFL player and offensive lineman who played for the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins. Grier has two brothers—Chad Jr., who goes by Nash, and Skyler—and one sister, Olivia.

All four of the Grier children were home-schooled by their mother before attending public school in Davidson, North Carolina. In high school, Will was a three-sport star in football, basketball, and baseball. He was also named Mr. Football for the state of North Carolina in 2012.

During his high school career, Grier played football at Davidson Day School in North Carolina. As a sophomore in 2010, he completed 186 of 267 passes for 3,285 yards and 41 touchdowns. He was named the Charlotte Observer Offensive Player of the Year. As a junior in 2011, he completed 205 of 309 passes for 3,585 yards and 53 touchdowns. He was again named the Charlotte Observer Offensive Player of the Year.

In 2012, as a senior, Grier completed 369 of 513 passes for 4,309 yards and 77 touchdowns; he also rushed for 500 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was named the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year, MaxPreps National Player of the Year, Parade Magazine All-American Player of the Year, USA Today All-USA first team quarterback, and Mr. Football USA.

College

Grier was a 3-star recruit out of Charlotte, North Carolina. Grier committed to the University of Florida to play college football. As a freshman at Florida, Grier was the back-up quarterback behind Jeff Driskel.

Will Grier was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school. He was ranked as the No. 8 pro-style quarterback in his class. Grier committed to the University of Florida over offers from Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisville among others.

As a freshman at Florida in 2014, Grier played in six games and started three. He completed 40 of 55 passes (73%) for 477 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions before he was suspended for one year after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
