LaVar Ball says his son Liangelo Ball will be back with the UCLA Bruins next season, but will he ever play in the NBA?
The Balls in Liangelo’s Court
Liangelo’s basketball skills
Liangelo Ball is a 6’5″ shooting guard who played one season of college basketball for the UCLA Bruins. He entered the 2018 NBA Draft but was not selected in the draft. He then signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, but was later waived by the team.
Ball has good size for a shooting guard, and he is a decent shooter. He is not, however, considered to be an NBA-caliber player at this point in his career. His best chance of making it to the NBA would be to sign with an NBA G League team and play well enough to earn a call-up to an NBA roster.
The NBA’s draft process
Each year, the National Basketball Association (NBA) holds a draft where they select the best players from around the world to join their teams. Players who have completed their college eligibility are eligible for the draft, as are international players who are at least 22 years old.
The process begins with interested players declaring for the draft. They then participate in a series of combines and workouts, where they are evaluated by NBA personnel. Based on these evaluations, some players will be invited to participate in the NBA pre-draft camp.
At the pre-draft camp, players undergo further physical and athletic testing, and they also play in 5-on-5 scrimmages. They are again evaluated by NBA personnel, and some players will be asked to participate in individual team workouts.
Finally, on draft night, the NBA team representatives select the players they want to add to their rosters. There is no guaranteed contract for drafted rookies, so it is up to them to prove that they belong in the NBA.
The Odds Are Stacked Against Liangelo
Liangelo Ball, the middle son of Lavar Ball, has been removed from the UCLA basketball team after being arrested for shoplifting in China. This is not the first time Liangelo has gotten into trouble, and many are wondering if he will ever play in the NBA. The odds are not in his favor.
The NBA’s age limit
The NBA has an age limit of 19, meaning that Liangelo Ball would not be eligible to declare for the NBA draft until 2020. This could be a problem for Ball, who will turn 20 in November 2018. By the time he is eligible for the NBA draft, he will be two years older than the average draft prospect.
This age limit was put in place in 2005 in an attempt to stop players from jumping straight from high school to the NBA. In theory, it gives players more time to develop their skills and mature before they make the jump to the professional level.
There is no guarantee that Ball will even be drafted when he becomes eligible. He is not currently projected to be a first-round pick, and his stock could drop even further if he doesn’t have a strong college career.
The odds are stacked against Liangelo Ball, but stranger things have happened. He’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds.
The NBA’s talent pool
Every year, the NBA draft features a new crop of young athletes eager to make their mark on the professional basketball landscape. For many of these players, getting selected in the draft is just the beginning of a long and successful career in the NBA. But for others, their time in the league is cut short due to a lack of talent or skill.
In order to be eligible for the NBA draft, players must be at least 19 years old and one year removed from their high school graduation. This means that many players are still very young and inexperienced when they enter the league. And with only 60 picks in the draft (30 in the first round and 30 in the second round), there are only so many spots available for all of the talented players coming out of college or international leagues.
This leaves many players who are good enough to play in the NBA but who don’t get drafted with two options: play in the G League (formerly known as the Developmental League) or go overseas. The G League is filled with players who are trying to develop their skills and prove themselves worthy of an NBA roster spot. But even if a player does well in the G League, there’s no guarantee that he’ll ever make it to the NBA. In fact, very few players ever do.
Of those who do make it to the NBA, even fewer become superstars. In any given year, there are only a handful of players who are truly elite and considered among the best in the world at their respective positions. The rest are simply roleplayers who fill specific needs on their team but who aren’t difference-makers on a nightly basis.
Given all of this, it’s no wonder that Liangelo Ball’s odds of making an NBA roster are so low. He’s young and inexperienced, he wasn’t selected in the draft, and he doesn’t have any standout skills that would make him an attractive option for an NBA team. Even if he does end up playing in China or elsewhere overseas, it’s unlikely that he’ll ever have a significant impact on an NBA game.
It’s All Up to Liangelo
There is a lot of speculation on whether or not Liangelo Ball will play in the NBA. He has the size and the skill set to be a successful player in the league, but there are questions about his work ethic and whether or not he has the drive to be successful. Only time will tell if Liangelo Ball will play in the NBA.
Liangelo’s work ethic
No one can say for sure whether Liangelo Ball will play in the NBA. He wasn’t highly recruited coming out of high school, and he didn’t have a standout season at UCLA. However, one thing that everyone agrees on is that Liangelo works hard. He’s always in the gym, working on his game. Given his work ethic, it’s possible that he could develop into an NBA-caliber player. Only time will tell.
Liangelo’s determination
Liangelo Ball has been working hard to make it to the NBA. He’s been playing basketball since he was a child and has always strived to be the best. His work ethic is unrivaled and he’s determined to make it to the big leagues.
At six feet six inches tall, Liangelo is certainly tall enough to compete at the highest level. He has a strong shooting stroke and is a very good defensive player. His biggest asset, however, is his determination. He’s never afraid of a challenge and always puts in the extra work to get better.
No one knows if Liangelo will actually make it to the NBA, but one thing is for sure – he won’t give up without a fight.
